I know officially there are just the twelve now but just started a 500 point starter force (Rune Priest, 3x Wolfguard in Term arm, 5x Grey Hunters, 3x Swiftclaws and 4x Longfangs) but the thing is I'm not keen on the paint schemes in the codex.

I'm happy doing them Space Wolf grey but I want to make them slightly different by painting the shoulders red and all insignia red as well (nearly finished the Rune Priest and Wolfguard). My plan is to do a 1500 point force for local tournaments and I was wondering what objections I may face as never entered tournaments before.

One of the reasons for this paint scheme is so I can add some of them into my Red Corsairs army which is painted following the original fluff...

Just paint em grey and say they are pre heresy, Grey Space Wolves are much cooler

As long as they're well painted, and don;t contradict established fluff, you'll be fine. I'm not sure about Space Wolves, but i think if you want to go with the general theme but change a few details, its okay to claim that it's a lost company or something.

I'm not sure if tournaments have fluff requirements. I know the most firm requirements are to have GW models. Painted. Use one set of rules and not mixing and matching. As in you can't use squads from both the codex DA and codex SW in the same army.

I'm doing SW with colors similar to Grey Knights. As long as you stick to one rules set and are able to say which characters you are using (for if you take the character and change the name you call them).

I'm doing something similar, I have decided to go with the mentors scheme. Green and white, Green trim and red Icon.

My trim will be bronze, icon still red, just gonna say it's a company tradition, or recent edition due to a special battle etc.

Of course the mentors have a lot of mystery around them, so my task is a bit easier .

In terms of fluff, I would just say that it is a company/unit specific thing.

Not sure about tourney rules though.

Since the SW don't have successor chapters like other SM armies (they tried once with the Wolf brothers but they had faulty gene seed). They have to have more than the standard 1000 in their numbers so you can have a psudo-successor SW chapter. They should at least have some trace of grey to link them to their orgins

To me it doesn't matter what they look like. I think the most important thing is that your opponent knows what every thing is. As long as your enemy knows that you are using the SW codex and the models are easy to tell what they are it shouldn't be a problem.

I myself will shortly be running space wolves but I am going to use my chaos marines for the modes, and for thunder wolf cavalry I am going to use Chaos knight from fantasy mounted on 60mm bases.

So as long as the models are identifiable, mounted on the right bases, and are the right size I don't see you having a problem.

The only color scheme that should be universally banned are the rainbow warriors.. other than that they are YOUR models so tell people in real life who give you grief to go jump off a cliff

Sorry I hate fluff nazis who go into hobby shops and tell people what they should or should not do with their models based
