Hey there guys... so today I was just finishing up all my painting I had and I was pretty excited to varnish everything... until after I sprayed them.

I originally had my guys based with Regal Blue and from there I drybrushed two different colors to make a sort of swirl effect (I was going for the aurora borealis look). That looked completely how I was hoping so I was really happy. On top of the two colors I drybrushed Mithril Silver to get a sort of shimmery effect, and again it looked superb to my standards.

Today I sprayed them with the Purity Seal varnish... and all by beautiful sheen and color has disappeared and gone flat. I'm so discouraged to use them and/or fix them now because all the work I had done seems like it can't be fixed. I'm quite sad.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can get back the shimmer? I tried to re-drybrush the silver but it didn't look the same AT all. Am I just going to have to strip them and redo??
Tips plx!! :(

Sorry to hear about your figures, I think your only hope is to strip and repaint. Next time I'd heavily advise doing a single test figure.

This happened to a friend of mine, he received better results with the Purity Seal by spraying from 30 cm (1') away. Hope that helps.

Test figures and use the varnish very lightly.

To much varnish will eat away the quality of the colors.

Metallic color rely on their gloss to give them the nice sheen, a matte spray will always render them quite dull. You might try a satin varnish instead.

To fix the ones you have, you might try putting a gloss varnish over them, to see if they get any of the sheen back. You could do this with a spray, or use GW's paint on `Ard Coat to be more selective.

This, also the Krylon Satin Varnish I use sometimes has a suprising effect of smoothing brush marks and blending some colors together for me that where rough on the transitions before.
