Are we near 1000 yet?

Not that it matters they can always claim some chapters have factions with different names and so on but I'm sure someone somewhere is keeping a list.

Anyone know?

I still have 996 to mock in my sigs.

While not official this is the largest knowledge base of Space marine chapters Ive seen. Mostly from people from the BnC. Even I got one on there.

@Shaman: I think this catalog contains mostly non-canonical homebrew chapters for B&C.

Lexi could be a good source as ph34r linked to .

I know the B&C kept track of chapters with paintschemes done with the "SM painter", so most of them would be
fanmade and the common "official" ones to make it "complete".

Tried to notice the GW named ones ( so I could have my own, non-GW names ), but lost track anywhere in the 200..

Would guess 30% could be right, if youre looking at chapters with at least their name used anywhere in a GW publication.

Maybe we could contribute names ( Chapter name generator is a funny piece of software ) to have them mocked by kid.

Its a long listing...
But it seems the xenos doesn't get the difference between traitor and loyalist ( still claiming only GW and loyal would be listed ).
Examples: Astral claws = badab war. Loyal? Dragon warriors = turned their backs on the E and seem to fight against sallies.

Plus, names like : 229 "Earth Sept" .... Really ?

So its not bad. Just does not answer the question about "named by GW" chapters. Most of the names there seem to be fanmade.
