I know this one's probably a silly question, but can the Gun Drones on a Tau Devilfish shoot regardless of how fast it moved? It just seems like they should be able to fire at least partly independently of the fish, since they have a different statline than the vehicle (Read: BS 2).

Runnin up on ya.

They're only different once they detach from the vehicle.

Why not read the rules for Gun Drones attached to vehicles on page 30? It is pretty clear as to how they can fire. If a Devilfish moves >6", it cannot fire any weapons, so you cannot fire the Gun Drones "in addition" to them. If the 'fish moves <=6", the Gun Drones can fire in addition to whatever the fish fires.

Coincidently, this is exactly how the rules for Embarked passengers work too.

Well, my face is red now. My mistake, I didn't even notice there was a paragraph on Gun Drones in the Vehicle Wargear section of the 'dex. My eyes apparently just skipped over it every time because I assumed I knew how Drones worked, and then I forgot about it when I needed to look up the rules about them stuck on a Fish.

Of course taking multi-tracker allows your vehicle to fire as a fast vehicle.

Exactly, which means the Drones would be able to fire!

see gwar just made the same mistake you made ... they are treated as passegers and can only shoot if it moveing less then crusing speed (6" or less). (Even on fast vehicles)

They are not treated as passengers all the time though. Only if the vehicle is damaged.

Trade rules: lower rep trades ships 1st. - I ship within 2 business days, if it will be longer I will contact you & explain. - I will NOT lie on customs forms, it's a felony, do not ask me to mark sales as "gifts". Free shipping applies to contiguous US states.

You might think that but you might be wrong. Here's my argument:
1) while attached to the vehicle they are a weapon system.
2) they are included in the victory point/kill point value.
3) if the vehicle is destroyed while they are attached, they are destroyed, unlike passengers who may perform an emergency disembarkment.
4) once detached from the vehilce they are treated as a separate unit.

You can play however you want to but without clear rules on it, I'll just follow what makes sense to me and my opponents agree with.

Hardly official but page 3 of the FAQ http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1180141_Tau_Empire_FAQ_2006-08_5th_Edition.pdf (top right side) indicates they are a vehicle weapon system.

Edit: sorry, misquoted.

And the codex states"... in addition to..."
2nd paragraph of the gun drones entry on page 30.

Not trying to be mean just trying to avoid the all seeing eye of GW's Lawyers.

What the disembark thing? Would you rather they say, "detach"?

Doesn't matter, the people I play with treat it as a part of the vehicle as long as it's attached because if I don't detach it and you blow my 'fish up, they die with the 'fish and can't "disembark" like passengers.

Additionally, you can't reattach them later so, it's an all or nothing scenario.

Page 36 under the devilfish heading lists them as weapons and you can upgrade them like weapons to SMS.

No, the "While the Gun Drones are attached. . ." It only relates to the firing of the gun drones. It basically says they may fire like defensive weapons.

No, I didn't! They are only treated as passengers for the purposes of disembarking. As long as they are attached, they count as a vehicle upgrade that can always fire in addition to the weapons fired by the 'fish.

Q. If you have Gun Drones on a vehicle (i.e. not
detached) and increase the BS of the vehicle
using a markerlight, is the BS of the Gun Drones
increased as well?
A. No.

Actually, gun drones are treated like passengers if the vehicle gets creamed. Last sentance of the gun drones entry in the Vehicle armoury: "and are treated as passengers if the vehicle is damged."

If passengers could disembark, gun drones are able to as well.

That's exactly what's been explained already. They count as passengers when the vehicle is damaged. Not before.

Correct they count as passengers in an open-topped vehicle for purposes of disembarking only, in all other regards they are a non-defensive weapon system.

Correst though they fire just like defensive weapons. except that they use their own BS.
