Or how to make Tyranid Synergy work best!

Rather than a direct tactica, I'd like to discuss A.C.E. with the Nids (Additional, Complimentary, Essential) when it comes to who can support who. Reason I want to do this is that I'm pretty much convince that the Nids will work best when your list is written with swarm tactics in mind.

What do I mean by this? Well, we list each choice in the book, and then debate which units elsewhere in the list bring out it's best features, which units it helps to perform to peak efficency etc. Sadly, despite having started the thread tonight, I am without my Codex as I left it elsewhere, so I might be a little off on the rules.

So to kick off, lets look at what people will be taking the most of, Troops.

From memory, we get..erm...

Gaunts
Hormogaunts
Tyranid Warriors
Rippers
Genestealers.

Feel free to list the various upgrades and things, as clearly each unit gains new potencies with each upgrade. Ultimately, I'd like the thread to become a go-to resource for those building up a new Nid army, so they can do so with informed, rational decisions as to what to buy! Be fair to each unit!

As an example...I am currently testing the current Swarm. 16 Gaunts with Devourers, 3 Warriors with Deathspitters, 1 Venomthrope and 1 Pyrovore. Armanent isn't terribly important to the tactic, as this is just the way I built them (got the models before the Codex). As a chunk swarm, it works fairly well. Warriors provide extra HTH muscle, Gaunts the bulk of shooting, Venomthrope defence specialist, and Pyrovore is there for flushing and disruption duties (see my thread about the Pyrovore for more details on disruption tactics). Only thing it can't handle as is would be heavy armour, be it vehicles or Terminators. This is largely due to the build, as give the Warriors Boneswords as well as the Deathspitters and even Terminators need to think twice before assaulting this lot, especially given the Dangerous Terrain tests forced by the Venomthrope (which can avoid getting shot up itself by hiding behind the Warriors). So acting in concert, this little Swarm is stronger than the sum of it's parts. Perhaps not the most efficent use of the various slots, but workable all the same, and pretty efficient!
