Hey dakkalads here i have some plans of mine for a salamander force. I want it to be one small army for fun play with my friends so i dont want it to be higher than 1500 pts. All tactical marines from this army will have corvus or heresy pattern power armor so thats another thing because of i dont want it to expant further: those bits are hard to get :( Here is what i have:
HQ: Vulkan He'stan 190 pts.
Troops: 10 Tactical marines (Combi flamer, Power fist, Lascannon, Flamer) 215 pts.
10 Tactical marines (Combi flamer, Power fist, Lascannon, Flamer) 215 pts.
10 Tactical marines (Combi melta, Multimelta, Meltagun) 195 pts.
Rhino 35 pts.
Rhino 35 pts.
Rhino 35 pts.
Fast attack: -
Elites: 5 Assault terminators (Thunder hammers & storm shields) 200 pts.
Land raider redeemer (Extra armour, Multi-melta) 265 pts.
Heavy support: Vindicator 115 pts.
1500 pts.
I picked up a battleforce, traded jump packs and CCW + bolt pistols for bolters and sold scouts. I also have converted Vulkan and assault termies. First thing to buy is the LR. Another thing to buy would be devastators and a combat squad to make 3rd tactical squad. For next two rhinos i will buy a predator and a whirlwind to have some vehicle selection which would be really nice i think. Final addition was hard choice: i was deciding between Thunderfire cannon and droppod dreadnought. I dropped thunderfire because its not plastic and then saw there is not enough points for droppod dread with MM and heavy flamer... i would have to drop a rhino for that. Then i saw awesomeness of vindicator.
One thing that come into my mind is to take that dreadnought by dropping power fists to power weapons and making both lascannons missile launchers... what do you guys think?
Plan is to combatsquad everything, put lascannon squads somewhere into cover, same with MM squad. One of flamer combat squads will be joined by Vulkan and they three squads would ride forward in rhinos flaming and melting and rhinodancing. They will also give cover to advancing LR with termies delivering some CC godness. Vindicator would be somewhere and demolish things with its demolisher cannon
Any comments, changes, suggestions??
Thanks for your time.

Would make sense to me to drop those lascannons and get multi meltas or else you've only got 3 meltas in the army which take advantage of the vulkan special rule. Personally I'd go multi melta and flamer combo with a combi weapon of your choice.
I would probably drop the vindicator and get 2 speeders with multi melta and heavy flamer combo. The vindicator is a easy target and high threat, take 2 speeders and you've got cheap anti tank and horde units which can move fast and also take advantage of vulkan's special rule
Hope that helps!

Drop vindi for 3 MM attackbikes and.
Drop vulkan for a libby.
Dont use Vulkan in anything under 1750p and even then really load up on hammers, meltas and flamers.

I'm curious why you say this. Vulkan's ability is definitely very effective in a larger scale game, but Vulkan himself is a terror on the table in a small match. How much fluffier could a salamander HQ get anyway?
In regards to the list:

I agree with this. Attack bikes get very focused, where the speeders have two very different twin linked weapons to take advantage of.

Multimeltas have short range and besides the bits are hard to get.. I want to snipe with combat squads and not be within 24" which means in range of most weapons.
Salamanders have limited fast attack and their fluff makes them not friends with any anti grav technology so the speeder option, while good, is being unfluffy... is there any other option you would suggest??
I was thinking about swapping power fists for power weapons but then it comes to mind that if i would drop combi weapons too i would have extra attack but ... is any of that worth it?? Let fists be inside the list, take power weapons and letting combi weapons be or drop both fists and combi weapons for power sword + bolt pistol?? I really dunno here.. Definitely too light on anti-tank. It might not be 'fluffy' but MM/HF Land Speeders are amazing in Vulkan lists, I run several of them myself and they rarely disappoint. Failing this, MM Attack Bikes are also useful.
I'm curious as to why you took a LRR over a LRC or regular LR? The flamestorm cannon isn't twin-linked. Personally I like the regular Godhammer variant for those brilliant twin-linked lascannons.
You could probably get away with 2 tactical squads at this level. Here's the way I see it:
In 1/3 of missions you don't need troops at all to win.
In 1/3 of missions you only need to hold one objective to win, as long as you are contesting the second.
In the final 1/3 you can always combat squad. Or just go after the opponents troops and force at least a draw. Or just aim to table, which Vulkan lists are very good at.
With the expensive HQ choice and obligatory Assault Termies/LR, Vulkan lists generally suffer from a lack of models on the table, so minimising your tactical squads which don't contribute much in the first place means you can fit in all those other goodies that make the list so powerful. Dropping the third tactical squad will give you enough points for 3 x MM/HF Land Speeders. Or a MM/HF Dreadnought inside a Drop pod, plus a one or two MM Attack bikes. Notice the MM/HF trend here? Best combination since butter on toast.
One final thing I'll say is don't ignore long range weapons. While taking Meltas and Flamers in every possible slot works wonders against certain lists, other lists such as Eldar/DE are always going to be the paper to your rock. Better to take that regular LR over the LRR/LRC, or a Typhoon ML over a MM, just to give you that flexibility.

I am thinking about those land speeders but... man they ARE unfluffy :(
I took LRR because of ... fluff... yes its weapons are not twinlinked but they wound most things on 2+ and have AP3 so can kill those marine armies and horde armies as well. It also has MM and is cheaper than regular LR. Besides it has assault cannon instead of TL HB. I dont like LRC because its too common.
Dropping one tactical squad is weird but nice choice i would consider that.
I dont ignore long range weapons... i have two lascannons there.
Ok i took those things you considered and worked new list:
HQ: Vulkan He'stan 190 pts.
Troops: 10 Tactical marines (Combi flamer, Power fist, Lascannon, Flamer) 215 pts.
10 Tactical marines (Combi melta, Lascannon, Meltagun) 195 pts.
Rhino (Extra armour) 50 pts.
Rhino 35 pts.
Fast attack: Land speeder ( MM, HF) 60 pts.
Land speeder ( MM, HF) 60 pts.
Land speeder ( MM, HF) 60 pts.
Elites: 5 Assault terminators (Thunder hammers & storm shields) 200 pts.
Dreadnought ( MM, HF) 115 pts.
Drop pod (Deathwind launcher) 55 pts.
Land raider redeemer (Extra armour, Multi-melta) 265 pts.
Heavy support: -
1500 pts.
I miss the vindicator and i took those damn speeders because i want to win something with this afterall

You are shooting yourself in the foot taking EA. Especially on the LR, since it gets the PotMS and can shoot regardless.

Dropping the deathwind missile launcher and EA on the rhino would get you down to 1500 again.
Oh yes, this will win you games.

Dropping deathwind will get me to 1510... i think dropping extra armour for a rhino and put maybe a meltabomb (? or what else for 5 pts.?) somewhere

Yea, I take lots of Melta bombs, as I have often found myself stuck in combat with a walker of some kind.
Nice list! Definately agree with the 2 tactical squads as opposed to 3. Vindicators are lovely, (just bought one), but you are probably better going with the MM's as you are a Salamander Commander afterall! Also, enough of them can bang out just as much as they are st8 and have that double armour penetration roll.
Definately take Vulkan! I go no-where without Kantor! If you collect a particular chapter of Space Marines that has its own special commander model, then why not use them? Unless its a very very low point value battle of course. Automatically Appended Next Post: Happy Burning!

12" is better than 6" for a normal meltagun Remember, you still get the +1 anyway and still twin-linked.
Each to their own on fluff. I just pick the best units in the codex and run with that.
Well if you take combi weapon you won't get the +1 attack anyway if you took a power weapon. I just find power fists to be better as they can smack infantry, monstrous creatures, vehicles and instant death T4 i.c.s Power weapons cannot do this. For that loss of 1 attack you get S8 I1, I think its a fair trade off for what a fist can do over a power weapon.
Attack bikes can kill infantry as well as they have twin-linked bolters and are relentless. They can also engage in close combat, vindicator cannot.
Vindicator can pop tanks but isn't reliable and is a easy target, as already mentioned. If you take the multi melta attack bikes you can move quicker and do more damage, and can still fight infantry, just you won't do as much damage.

In defence of Speeders, the entry on Salamanders says that they have few units trained with them because it is difficult to do so. It does not say they have none. So your force could have the only 4 or so Landspeeders in the chapter...because you have Vulkan He'stan and him winning is important enough to dedicated those limited resources to you winning.
Besides that I have no helpful input that hasn't already been covered >_>
