Subject: Individually based IG weapons teams....

How much trouble is this going to cause me? I've recently gotten back into 40k and started an IG army. For ease of transport, compatctness, and preference, I've based the weapon/firer on a cavalry base and loaders on a standard 25mm. In looking at the rules, it seems that I should have used the large platters that they were supplied with.
How much flack am I likely to get in friendly games? In tournaments?
I still have the bases they came with. If I ever start doing tournaments (or get an especially particular player) should I just keep the bases with me and stick the figs on them like a movement tray if an issue is made of it?

In a tourni or even in some friendly games you will run into the 'must be modelled on the base supplied' arguement. Your solution to carry the bases and use them as
a movement tray would I imagine be perfectly fine. You also have the option of modelling the large base so that the 2 smaller bases could sit in it and still be removable, build up the
scenery on the larger one leaving spaces for the bases to sit in.

The easiest way is really to buy a 60mm base, cut out holes for the 25mm bases and slot them in.

So long as you discuss it pre-game to resolve how they will function (being two separate models representing one two-wound model) most players won't have a problem with it.
I would agree that adding them onto a 60mm base in some way would be the easiest solution, though.

I'm pretty new to 5th ed....
Besides losing a lasgun, what's the functional difference between it being a 2 wound model and having a gunner and loader?
If anything, it would seem to be easier to track the wounds if you can take the loader out.

Another way to surface the base is to use foam-core. It is available in a thickness that matches the 25 mm base. I use it in scenic bases for my artillery in Warhammer. Magnets to hold the artillery piece in place and cut outs for the crew. Then sand and paint to match your gun models.

A single instant death shot will remove the team, rather than just one of the two models.
It also removes any need for rules governing where the two models have to be... which were missing from the last codex (due to GW writing it under the assumption that everyone would be using the new, single-based Cadians and Catachan teams) and caused no end of hassles for those using the older models.
