Okee dokee! finally finished all the treekins now .
It was sort of hard to keep track off , mixing the poses, the different color sprite ,
and attaching foliage in a way so they look better when in their units.
And the top view :

I KNEW IT! i was thinking exactly the same so i added 3rd option of maybe filling the branches with MORE "leafs"
though they dont really look like leafs grrr....
That or i need to trim them alittle to give them some shape instead of the red AFRO

On, but with less volume in the leafs. After all, if it's autumn and they are moving, most of the leafs would fall to the ground
And I would try a soft brown ink for the leaves. And maybe a very light orange highlightning.
They can be very cool.

IMO that lichen stuff has too much texture to really look like leaves. Actual leaf material doesn't really stick too convincingly to models, so I think your best bet is Clump-Foliage from Woodland Scenics.
Haven't seen any of this stuff in autumn colors online, but I remember seeing bags of it in red and yellow at my local game store. Well, to be fair that was 10 years ago but still...
Check a hobby store that carries model trains, they should have loads of options.
I am totally behind keeping the foliage though, makes the models pop with a good color and texture contrast.
EDIT: Okay I'm an idiot, there's autumn-colored stuff on the second page of that link I posted.

I have to agree with Stimutacs. The issue is with the material you're using. It looks more like sponge than foliage.
I'd aim for somethign from Woodland Scenics, or go with individually-made leaves.
One thing to note is that the typical railroad scenery materials tend to degrade under hand-touching. If these treekin are to be played with on the table, the foliage might end up broken and crushed if you pick them up by the branches a lot. Little chunks of the stuff will fall off, or be reduced to coarse powder. We had a bunch of this stuff used for terrain, and it all fell apart under repeated usage.

Ok , so the general agreement = strip them all off!
Well , the bag of the foliage did cost me $10 ,
any suggestion to what i can use them for now?
Tyranid foliage?

I went with off, but the Treekin are such horrible models, I was tempted to say cover them up as much as you can. Good paint job all the same though.
By the way Luna, your current Avatar is freaking me out, though I'm not sure why

Leave it as it is Luna.
They look fine enough, and the leaves distract viewers from the awful sculpts.

the foilage would look good on terrain so no waste of money.
i like the idea behind it but, i would use a lot less, assuming your going with the autumn look for example

There is another problem with leaving the leafs on.
From every main "branch" the leafs are glued on , there are forest sprites near the same area. Basically they are mostly covered atm ><

I like it very much. The leafs that are closest to the main body are so dense that even look like moss. That's pretty cool.
How did you do it this time? Is it the same red stuff covered with some product or is it built from scratch?

The first red ones are called lichen i believe. They are almost like sponges in a way.
The new green ones are proper rail road modeling foliages , i just pluck them out of a giant piece .
I also dried brushed lighter greens on different parts to give it some shape so it doesnt look like a ball ( because of my plucking rofl )

I love it. These are excellent treekin! Mine also have this type of foliage, although it wasn't done by me, and I think it makes them look excellent. The models are a little bare otherwise imho.
So you're sticking with wood elves?

I have no idea , for painting every army i have a habit.
I always thought or assume that i would paint the models i like the most , but guess not.
But i noticed i always end up painting the units that costs the most points rofl.
( i guess in my mind i get to say YAY its 50% of army done! , even though reality of model count they are like 10% painting... )

My gaming table hasn't got any forest, I think it might be time to try some wire and foliage trees... someday... must... paint... DE warriors...
