Hey Dakkites, I've just recently started playing 40k, I was thinking i might like to start my first army as Dark Angels. Yes, i do know they have a seriously bad case of codex creep and deeply need an update. Can anyone share with me an army list?

My usual opponents will be... SoB, Black Templars... basically just power armour armies.

If you face a lot "power armor armies"

Plasma Cannon is your friend!
Perhaps you are starting....so you have a blackreach,right?
And then...you better start lower point army.

As a new player the sections you should rely on are HQ, Troops and Heavy Support.

Terminators are lots of fun, but bery difficult to use properly as an army of just Deathwing. Same for Ravenwing, they are fragile but hit hard and are difficult to use properly.

For starters I'd say do a 1,000 point list. Few units and easier to command a smaller army than a big one.

If you play Dark Angels as a Dark Angels army and not as another marine army type you should take advantage of their special things. That means an Interrogator Chaplain. Interrogator Chaplains are best used with assault squads. Assault squads are tricky to use, but can be used to great effect. I'd start with a 5 man squad simply to learn how to hide them behind terrain and vehicles to charge.

So a basic army.

Chaplain (Melta Bombs, Jump Pack) 145 pts
2 Tactical squads (10 man) Missile Launcher and plasma gun or ML and flamer. 180 for with flamer 190 for plasma 370 total
1 Squad 5 assault marines. Only upgrades to take are melta bombs and power weapon. Or a power fist. Don't need all 3 just the first two or the power fist. 145pts
1 Squad Deathwing Terminators Chainfist, Assault Cannon 250 pts
1 Rhino for each tactial squad.

Right around 1,000 points.

Or
Belial 130
Terminator Squad w Assault cannon and chainfist 250
2 Tactical squads (10 man) Missile Launcher and plasma gun or ML and flamer. 180 for with flamer 190 for plasma 370 total
1 Venerable Dreadnought with Multi Melta and drop pod. 180

Can deep strike the terminators and belial on turn one and put the dreadnought in drop pod next to it. The tactical squads would be mobile and take objectives. The deathwing would count as troops with the addition of Belial, so they can take an objective and hold it.

Terminators are nice, but tricky to use correctly. Start with one squad and work your way up from there after you see how they work. They are great, but plasma cuts through their armor and they are a high point cost unit for few models. That means that every model is precious and bad to lose.

In my opinion, I'd go the second army list.

I like the sound of the second one. Also I've noticed either Belial isn't on - or is hard to find on - the GW website. Is he a Forge World model or something?

I'm also thinking of starting a deathwing army and for my Belial I'll be using the Space Hulk minitures on bases (and filling off all the darkangels iconography and painting him). That way you have him in all 3 forms, thunder hammer and storm shield, storm bolter and power weapon and thunderhammer and storm shield.

Belial has never had an official GW model. Most use a plastic Terminator and arm him as they like. I used the AOBR Terminator Sergeant simply because he was the most unique looking Terminator Model I owned.

Yeah, I'm just finishing off my Chaos 1st though, so I'll probably start on the Belials next week. I'll post them before and after painting.

If you want to go none deathwing/ravenwing and want to win you better start consider to use C:SM.
But yeah...."Always" win dosent need for this game.....Its little harder....but Darkangels is fun.

Assault on Black Reach. There are some website sell the sprues separately so you can got termies and Dreads at lower cost.

And the details...you may think that the tactical squads boxset is an ork product.

For belial i use the space marine captain lysander model as he has a cool cape and is a very uniquedetailed model. However you should either file off or cover with dark angel symbols the imperial fist iconography
