Just FYI, from tomorrow, these will only update on your profile summary (under your avatar) when you login. You can force an update by logging out and logging in again. Your main profile page will continue to show the correct, latest figures.

The reason for the (pending) change is that I am trying to squeeze more life and efficiency out of the server at the moment, and this minor change will hopefully make quite a large difference at the cost of slight inconvenience. If it annoys or confuses too many people then I'll just take out the under-avatar stats for these items for clarity's sake.

Feedback: This change has caused me to stop voting in the gallery.

Lets take out our post counts and our ranking track while we are at it.

Gallery votes was encouraged heavily by the mods few months ago. Some people bothered and put some effort into
giving votes like mods asked us to. Now to take it away, hmm.

Personally, I don't care how many Gallery Votes a person has. Post Count is only checked when I see a Necroed thread, and can say to myself "Yep, less than 10, just what I expect.". Gallery Images is the only one I personally care about.

He said that they won't update until you login again, not that they'll be taken away. But, updates as normal on your profile page.

So just log out and log back in after voting in the gallery a fair bit, otherwise when you log out for the day and come back the next it will be at the current one anyway.

Only a minor inconvinience really.

Yes, I simply had to slow down the rate at which the updates were displayed so that we can handle more users comfortably. This minor change allows an extra 10% or so of traffic without any additional cost. I'll fix it in the future when we have some more spare capacity, but for now fixing it is a very low priority.

Yep. I used to try to keep my gallery vote count the same as my post count, but now that it doesn't update automatically it's just enough of a hassle to check that I stopped voting altogether.

I see our post count now reflects the total posts i.e. deleted posts no longer count. Is this part of the same change?

This makes sense to me... if it gives Dakka little more life in the servers, I can log out and log in again every once in a while

Of course... I haven't been good about voting yet, so maybe I'll get on that...

Edit: A related question. Does Dakka "prefer" us to host our pics of warhammer items on the server? I always use my photobucket account out of habit, but perhaps I should start putting them here...

We prefer them being here - it means if you close your photobucket account or remove old pics that your old threads or blog wont suddenly have images vanish, maintaining your photos for the distant future.

Got it. I'll do that from now on (and maybe even update a few recent pic-heavy posts to put them here)... Thanks!
