So I played ME1 at least a dozen times on the 360, but im considering getting ME2 for the PC. If you're not importing a character, how/can you choose what happened in 1?

The game chooses automatically for you. I would stick with 360, personally. Unlike Oblivion, Mass Effect 2 seems like the kind of game you wouldn't want to mod, which is the only real reason to choose pc over 360 for an rpg, IMHO. Besides, you'll miss out on all the little touches that they built in...

Like you get no choice at all? And I'd bet my left foot the wimpy paragon story is the default. Yea we'll probably get it for 360, thanks

If you've got ME1 for the 360, get ME2 for it as well. It's so much better finding out how your choices in ME1 affect your ME2 game. So to that end, I would suggest carrying over on the same platform you started with.

If you do choose pc after all though, there are websites full of ME1 saves with various different choice paths. Nowhere near as good as using your own, and it's someone else's name/face, but at least there's that. Good thinking sticking with the Xbox version though.

Dude, the 'wimpy Paragon story' in ME2 is fething awesome. You stick it to bad guys, kick the Reapers in the nuts and walk away.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

You do that in the first one too. But you can either be another word that starts with P and let everyone live and be a space hippie, or kick EVERYONE in the nuts.

And you'll actually find it really hard to not get any Paragon points. Just having discussions with your crew and completing loyalty missions gets you Paragon points.

And this time it's less Space Hippy and more badass heroic stuff.

I went Paragon myself. Saves me ammo for bigger fights often

But, and I'm looking at you Cheese, who here can say they didn't, at least once, shoot the gas pipeline while the Krogan was giving his evil speech in the test labs? And the one liner was awesome...

Shepherd: "You talk too much"

Classic.

I was twiddling the triggers during the cutscene and I accidentally blew it up. That was how I got my first Renegade points, so I panicked and reloaded my last save, but the damn points stayed. Repeating it didn't net me any more Renegade points. It was pretty badass though. It was really tempting to push the Eclipse Merc out of that window while interrogating him for Thane's location, but I had Garrus with me and I was thinking 'lawful good, lawful good...'

It's pretty funny though.

If Sheperd kicked him instead of shoved him, it would have been perfect.

It's nothing you wouldn't have seen in the trailers/previews. There was even a demo video at E3 where you see the encounter with the Eclipse Merc who gets shoved out the window.

Well maybe I overreacted the slightest bit... But of all the games to want to avoid spoilers in, this one is Ground Zero. (and Bioshock 2)
There's a reason I haven't watched too many trailers.

Hallelujah, another purist like me.

I hate spoilers in new games that I get. It's impossible to avoid them for every single game, but big epic games like Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2 are big names to try and experience on your own. I, too avoided watching trailers (And even reading reviews - heck, for a few days, I completely ignored the "First Impressions of Mass Effect 2" thread thinking it would have plot spoilers) so I could keep the experience pure.

Oh right, the topic at hand. I would definitely go ahead and get it for the system you played/beat the first game on. The way they execute the import of your old character is brilliant and almost flawless (Though I did notice they basically had to let you decide again who became Councilor for the human race at the end of the first game). It's also very satisfying to see your own form of Commander Shepard return for the sequel, especially considering how much detail the character customization has.

I already posted this in another thread, but if you're switching platforms check out this site. It contains save games for nearly every possible decision permutation, so you can effectively replicate all the pertinent information from your ME1 character.
