Since we frequently get threads on how to equip Tau Crisis Suits, I have created an article on the topic.

I'm open to some feedback, but don't be offended if I don't add everything that gets said. And feel free to point people to the article if you're feeling lazy.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

"Tau grandmothers send their Tau grandkids to school with S5 AP5 weaponry, and homeless Tau throw S5 AP5 weaponry out when they find it because it's so prevalent in Tau society that no one even wants to buy it. Every Burst Cannon that you put on a Crisis Suit is one less Missile Pod, Plasma Rifle or Fusion Blaster that you'll be taking." Just an opinion that in small points games, when FoC limitations won't necessarily manifest, Burst cannons can be solid choice, in my (limited) experience.

About Failsafe detonator: as I understand it, biggest benefit of that item is that enemy does NOT get a sweeping advance. I have never used it, but I could see a value for it protecting a large suit unit (for example, Farsight & bodyguard) from getting totally killed by a poorly gone round of CC. Explosion is just gravy.

Calling the missile pod an auto-cannon is a bit misleading, MPs don't rend (would be awesome if they did)

Failsafe detonators can be useful on commander retinues, and almost mandatory (in my opinion) for Farsight & Seven Samurai. I've only ever killed a couple genestealers with it, thanks to it's AP -, but the following turn of fire squished the bugs.

Thanks for taking the time to write the article! While the tau codex isnt new, they do frequently get new players it seems, at least in my area.

My only suggestion would be to back up the article with some math fun. Or, in other words, you could compare the deathrain and fire knife point for point with particular tasks in mind, such as killing av 10, 11, and 12 vehicles, so people can see where the configs shine. This in turn will let them take suits that fit their local metagame better.

Finally, while you do mention the suit commander with bonding knife and 2 shield drones, you could use some more maths to illustrate exactly how much more survivable this upgrade makes an otherwise 3 suit squad.
