Well I shall be cheering him on come Sunday, but a lot of English people are still disgruntled about that comment he made about which football team he supports when Scotland don't make the World Cup ("Anybody but England!"). I think the reason my fellow Englishmen (and women) got extra sniffy about this was because we always make the effort to cheer on the Scottish and indeed the Welsh and Irish in any sports, but they seem less inclined to do so.

Anybody would have thought they still had a big chip on their shoulder about all that oppressing of their ancestors during the last millenium.

Regardless, he probably won't win, but "Come on Murray!" anyway.

MDG. While you are broadly correct. I will point out that England has been in Quarter Finals of major international tournaments fairly recently, has a decent coach right now (I like Don Fabio) and qualified for WC10 with a fantastic record, albeit, against mostly crappy countries.

When was the last time the Scots past the 1st Round at a WC or Euro again?

I just think it's a shame the English have become gak at Rugby. Winning the RWC a few years back was fething amazing.

Oh, England is not a good team. They're pretty bad. They are, however, indisputably better than Scotland. After all which teams are in Scotlands' WC group?

Problem for UK football is that there are so few Englishmen playing it at elite level.

Most of the rosters are from other countries.

Im English, i will happily concede that the England football team are absolutely dogshit.

Being a Middlesbrough fan it rolls off the tongue with suprising ease.

I dont vote for the BNP, but i have a sense of humor by-pass because you are no doubt entirely serious in your hatred for your neighbours, i recall your insults when the football draw was made. The only Scots i had any regard for was my grandad, and the ones in my regiment, because they all admitted that they got brainwashed from an early age to have an irrational dislike for "The English" as if it is some sort of super organism and not just a country with 55 million people in trying to feed their kids and get on with their lives.

Many Scots practice an undiminished fury against their neighbors. I also feel i can claim the moral highground in this argument as having Scottish ancestory i supported Scotland in pretty much everything as a boy, and then i got based in Arbroath for a year and realised that a great percentage of Scots have been psycho conditioned from an early age to spew bile and rhetoric about the English super organism as if it is responsible for all of their woes.

I also concede i am not strong enough to "turn the other cheek" and like any good soldier i prefer to meet the hatred head on.

When you tossers stop gibbering spanking and frothing about slights commited by people hundereds of years ago, we will stop gibbering about football. Until then i think most people reserve the right to crack on.

Not only do i think that Scotland should be fully independant, i think we should place some explosives on the border and push it away from us with a big stick. We also should not allow Scots to settle in England without a Visa, and if you want to keep all the North Sea oil, we can fight for it. Weve got the Royal Marines and the Para's and you guys have the Royal Highland Dogwalking regiment that all the weaklings who failed Marine training end up in. I know who my moneys on.
