Heyo.

I'm very new to Warhammer 40k, and this is my first list. I figured I would start with a Combat Patrol list considering the size probably makes it less daunting than a standard 40k list.

HQ-
Big Mek
+Kustom Force Field

Troops-
Boyzx 20
+Nob
+Power Klaw

Heavy-
3 Units of 2x Killa Kans
2 units have 2x Grotzookas
1 unit has 2x Big Shootas

I was thinking about the Kustom Mega Blasta, but I wasn't sure how the Gets Hot rule worked with Killa Kans, are they technically vehicles?
Also do you think this list is fine without a bosspole? I think that 20 Boyz should hold up for a while, especially behind the Kans and the KFF.

My idea with this list was that the Kans would march up front with the Boyz and the Mek behind, right up to Waaagh! distance and then the Boyz could charge on through. This list was inspired by one I read on this site, but it didn't add up right, and I couldn't find it again so I thought I'd make my own that DID add up right (as far as I can tell)

Well, tell me what you guys think, all criticism is welcome (even vicious ribbing).

Thanks!

I think if you put grotzookas onto those killa-kans (all of them) instead of big shootas and rokkit launchas, you'll be in business.

I think you should keep one unit with rokkit launchas, and the other two with grotzookas, just so you stand a chance against a 3-raider-spam/wave serpent that you might encounter at 500pts.

All you need do is stun it, and you've bought yourself time...

Maybe dropping the big shootas on the Boyz would help?

Yeah I'm in for dropping the big shootas, that was just to use available points. Is the Grotzooka really that good? Alright I'll redo the math a bit to try to fit the Gotzookas in there.

Oh about the Grotzookas, arent there not allowed to be any blast weps in patrol?

Standard FOC requires 2 troops choices, you've only got 1.

I have no recollection on a blast weapon restriction on combat patrol sized lists, but I don't play them that often.

In combat patrol I believe you only need one.

You only need 1 in Combat Patrol.

Fair enough, then.

Ack, I was off by 10 points in the first place. Haha i never had room for the big shootas on my Boyz anyway. Do you think there is anything else that is worth cutting for the Grotzookas? I'm not really understanding their value yet.

At 500 points, you're not going to see a lot of vehicles. You don't need particularly potent anti-tank. The Grotzooka is an assault 2 weapon that is a small blast template. IE, you get two STR6 blast templates to toss into an enemy squad per killa-kan. For a two kan squadron, that's 4 shots per FoC per turn. That's got the potential to do a lot more damage than a big shoota.

And if you do run into vehicles, STR6 can hurt the rhinos or raiders you might run into. But honestly...you've also got STR10 DCCWs to deal with any vehicles that come your way.

Do you think I should drop the Rokkits then? Get myself 4 Grotzookas and have 2 Big Shootas, cuz that's all I'd be able to afford after that haha.

I just had a little mock battle with this proxied up. It was against a marines army of the same points, and it held it's own quite well. I was impressed by how amazing the Killa Kans are. And their CCWs seem completely unfair in games of this size.
