Hey,
Atleast Europeans might remember that White Dwarf Magazine held a competition called Chapter Master a few years ago. The idea was to paint three Space Marines in DIY colours, invent a name for the chapter and write some background material. The models were sent to Games Workshop HQ in England and the best chapter won enough models to build a Space Marine army worth 2000 points. The winner decided which models he wanted ordered. My friend won the competition with his Angel Guard Marines. He posts here and there with the name Chrono. GW's idea was that once the entire 2000 points was painted, they fly Chrono to England and the army and chapter gets featured in WD magazine.
Although he got the models, he never started painting any of them and the project was scrapped. Half a year ago however I started assembling a Space Marine army and wanted to make them a DIY chapter. After brainstorming the colour scheme a bit, we thought it a cool idea to go back to the Angel Guard idea and finally make them a reality. Chrono however still didn't want to have anything to do with the Marines, so I commissioned another friend of mine to do the job. Since I wasn't going to paint the models I went on to order a lot of bitz to make the models stand out a bit and tried to convert and pose the models enough to make them all look interesting.
The project is on-going, as we're going to add a Land Raider Crusader, Assault Terminators, atleast 8 Marines on Juggernaughts (JuggerKnights?) to represent Thunderwolf Cavalry, 4-6 Razorbacks, some Devastators/Long Fangs and probably some of the upcoming BA flyers.
Here's what's ready at the moment.

Much appreciated. I think the colour scheme and theme is fairly sinister and wartorn and therefore also appeals to people who normally prefer Chaos armies.

Great to see this army come alive, the updated theme and colors work, the idea to add, or even saturate, the marines with extra knightly stuff/gear worked out really well. I think it's nice that you used the basic colorscheme idea and adjusted it to become your own. In the end the comission guy who painted them up did a very good job, and your assembly and vision of the creation and evolution of the units turned out to become a lovely looking army. Can't wait to see this on the battlefield(shooting holes in my bugs : lol: ).
And for anyone wondering, I'm "chrono" referd to in the OPs post. In case anyone is interested, I thought I'd link up to the guys who worked as inspiration.

Anyway, it's a great looking army, and I look forward to seeing the additions to the army.

Please go back and drill out the holes on the weapons for the Rhinos and Speeders. A nice paint job undone by something as trivial as that is a tragedy.

I'm aware of them. This set of models was finished only a few days ago and the pictures have been taken right afterwards so there's some small adjustments still to make.

The Marines were quite expensive, as I had to order plenty of Dark Angels accessory sprues and tons of Black Templar upgrade sprues. All of the heads are Black Templar heads for the knightly emperor's champion look, and every Marine has a Black Templar chestpiece with the tabard.
Nearly every model has Cypher's backpack, and all of the wings and little trophies on top of the backpacks are from the Dark Angels sprues. The squad sergeants have converted DA backpacks.

Thanks mate, how do you think Khorne helmets would look? With the horns shaved off of course. They strike me as knighty.
And sorry but, what is the paint? It looks good. Mabye GW equivilant even though i dont use it, just a rough idea.
Thanks,

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

Really nice; I admire the detail in the painting. The conversions are a little over the top and take the "Angel" motif pretty far - not quite Canis Wolfborn far, but pretty far. I see you went to the trouble of drilling the barrels for the infantry, and I think it would be awesome if you did the same for the multimeltas on the land speeders. It would really bring them up to the same standard of painting and converting.
Any chances of some HQ closeups? I'd love to see some good shots of the detail work on these dudes.

I'll get it done by tomorrow. There won't be any new pictures of the same models though.

The idea was to show there's more to Marines than just the base colour of their battle plate armour. If I've understood correctly, the new BA 'Exalted' Assault Marines have decoratively winged jump packs, so I guess GW likes to take the Angel theme up a notch too

I think the army looks fabulous. The only nit I have is that you could have drilled the barrels of the guns on your speeders or at least painted the ends black. The color choice works out very nicely and your additional details and freehand really bring the tie the chapter theme together.
