How good to people find the unique options for these two. The missiles and rocket pods that is. I tend to avoid limited use items like them, but that means that I also haven't tried them, so I don't know how good they are. When do people find them useful?

Rocket pods are great for valkyries, because they aren't limited use.

The single shot-rockets for vendettas are inferior because IG already has tons of infantry busting from other slots/units, so you don't want to lose two twin-linked lascannons for some 1-shot flamers (effectively).

A quick guide to weapons on Valks/Vendettas:

-If it's a 1 time use weapon, don't bother. A valkyrie w/ two hellstrikes is vastly inferior to a Vendetta and a Vendetta with Hellfuries is vastly inferior to a Valk with rocket pods.

-Heavy Bolters might as well be mandatory. For the same cost as a single Heavy Stubber you get 2 heavy bolters on a fast skimmer. Heavy Bolters are also what makes the Valk a moot point as the Vendetta with heavy bolters is rocking 9 shots a turn and switch hits infantry and armor with equal levels of success.

If you are using Valk/Vendys your de facto options are: Vendettas with 3* TL Lascannons and Valkyries with Rocket Pods. Add door Heavy Bolters based on personal preference and/or remaining points.

One shot weapons on a platform with Ballistic Skill of 3 is really not a winning recipe.

Heavy Bolters are good on Vendettas but not Valkyries. Valkyries are useful because they can move 12" every turn and still be effective, and taking the Heavy Bolters limits that mobility.

The Hellstrikes can only be used if the Valk dosen't move at all, and even then you can only fire one at a time. Go for the rocket pods and the door gunners.

Ordnance can be used if the vehicle moves just fine, it just prevents other weapons from being fired.

A valk can move 12 and fire a hellstrike.
