With my tax return coming shortly, I was thinking of getting started on my second army. I was thinking of going IG (since I have the codex).

So, what would I need for a decent 2000+ pt. force? Money is not really of any object, since I am going to have the cash to sling around.

Well, what's your style? Tanks, Artillery, Infantry, Mechanized, AirCav, or Hybrid? You got choices, boyo...

Still looking through the codex. Haven't decided yet. Looking for something "balanced", if there's such a thing in IG.

I think so. I'm no pro, but many of the lists posted on Dakka go for a balanced, all-comer approach. I would take a look at some of the lists on the first few pages here, just to get a feel for what out there. I would also recommend Polonius's IG codex review in the Tactics section. It's comprehensive and I found it helpful.

You an also build lists that are balanced in terms of the types of units. A gunline supported by big guns and mobile elements is viable. Sometimes called a Hybrid list. Usually a platoon or two on foot, possibly with HWS support, accompanied by mounted vets plus fast attack and heavy support to taste.

Well if I had the option to just go out and buy what ever I wanted then these would be some of the key items to pick up.

Platoon of 50 men plus the command platoon squad.

2x chimera,
Valks, ven
2x new LRBT with all the kit upgrades.

I enjoy out flanking and so some sents would be good to have.

Battle force 3x would cover your core of troops and allow for the extra weapons as needed.

You will need at least one commissar for the 50 man platoon.

I would also look at some of the other dex ie DH/WH for some other optional support.

Ratlings can be pretty handy too. theyre cheap in points and $ and they can do ok damage.

That low LD on the rats is a main issue for me. Though they do have the ability to bring the pain. Its just that its really hard to do that now being that they hit on bs. Though if you had a way to up the ld for orders, it would help...

Don't waste cash. Go mounted veteran squads. Tanks and/or artillery to suit. Currently I'm heavily favoring artillery, specifically a griffon/colossus combo.
