I was building my Burna boyz just a minute ago and got to thinking...

My original list consists of a mob of 15 burna boyz in a Battle Wagon which I already know to be deadly

But I was starting to think if the Burna Boyz would be at all any good in a Footslogging list? Am thinking they wouldn't be the greatest but curious if anyone has any experience in using them on foot or thoughts about doing so?

Negatives I see as of now
1. No Nob
2. Can't Flame then charge with Power weapons

Positives
1. 15 Power Weapons with 45 max attacks on the charge...

Put a unit of Grotz in front of them, with a full three Runtherds. That'll give them a 4+ cover save and a screening unit for units that attempt to charge you.

When you want to flame someone, pull the Grotz back slightly, and move the Burnas through the gaps and into position. During the shooting phase you reverse the order, with the Burna Boyz flaming, and then the Grots running back in front to catch any charge.

Of course, you don't have to shoot all the Burnas, and doing so will probably deny you the charge anyways, but if you only fire several of them, then the remainder can use their Burnas as Power Weapons in the following combat.

Have you tried this? If so how'd it work out? I have yet to even use Grots and I have 30 of them little buggers. I use more Ork boyz to screen.

I've tried it, and its a gamble unless you put your Burna Boyz and Grotz close enough to be in very real danger from blast markers and templates. If there's few of those, the formation becomes more effective as you can tighten their ranks.

Remember that the greatest you can spread your units out is 2", and that each base is about 1". The template is 8" long, so with even a single line of Grots 2" in front, you'd have move 6" forward to flame something 11" in front of the Grotz, and then have the Grotz run 4" to get back in front of the Burnas.

Its most effective when something that would mulch Ork Boyz tries to charge on foot at the Burna Boyz, like Berzerkers or other Ork boyz. But it beats having your Burna Boyz charged first. If you're very luck the Grotz successfully run away and leave the charging unit high and dry.
