I am just starting to get into Fantasy and decided on Lizard men. I have picked up the battalion box set and gonna be picking up more. I need some help figuring out if i should buy what is listed. Like stated before I have 18 sarus and i think 16 temple guard. I haven't built them yet so the list can be flexable. I would like anyones input and advice.

2 saurus heroes are not really needed, 1 perhaps if you wanted a separate BSB from your slann. I would bump both saurus to 18 and bring the TG at least to 16 if not 20.

With left over points pick up some terradons or razordons.

The divine plaque is wasted if the slann is hiding in the temple guard unit, I would recommend another discipline instead.

Would be better to add another skink priest in the army? or just round out the total number of core and special choices?

I only run 2 characters for Lizardmen personally, as I prefer to run 2 units of terradons, 2 salamanders and 2 razordons.

Have you had any success with a mounted character or just on on foot in a squad of saurus?

Mounting characters is a better option in 7th edition as they can't be picked off anymore by shooting or magic.

My only characters for lizardmen in 2k-2250 games is a slann w/ 20 temple guard and a scroll caddy lv 2 skink on an engine.

So then what magical items would you recommend for the Slann. Seeing as the plaque is not really worth it, also does the warbanner count as a magical item for the slan?

Yes, although a slann can have any magic banner plus up to 100 points in magic items, so the banner does not count against his 100 points.

If you want to protect the unit from shooting a bit more, you can take the sun standard of chotec otherwise the plaque of dominion is really the only useful option for a slann unit.

My slann runs as follows:

Slann, BSB, Mystery and Rumination disciplines, and cupped hands. Total cost 395, leaves some room for scrolls if you want to take the diadem on the skink priest.
