Ever since I heard about the new creatures in the Tyranid Codex, I knew I wanted to try my hand at making them. When I custom build something, I try and match the codex artwork as closely as possible (like my Ork Looted Wagon). The Tervigon and Harpy were first up on my list of things to add to my growing Nid army.

Tervigon
I began by widening the Trygon torso with some plasticard. After I had the size down, I sculpted over the framework with Apoxie Sculpt. I also used some additional plates and pieces from the Trygon and Carnifex kits to achieve the look I wanted.

I added the back vents from the Carnifex kit and the center row is from a Venomthrope. I still have a lot of work to do on this model, including adding the areas for the Termagants to emerge from underneath. I am thinking there will be 2 openings - 1 open with an emerging Termagant, and one closed. The back legs will be from the Carnifex with some modifications, and the front 4 legs will be all large Scything Talons from the Carnifext kit. I still have some gap filling to do as well as smoothing out the back vents more.

Here is a comparison shot of the WIP Torso next to a Carnifex so you can see the scale. Just like the drawing, it will be a big beast!

I also created a Harpy from the body of a FW Winged Hive Tyrant. I was lucky to get this model from a friend of mine (minus the wings) and I think it is in a great pose for a Harpy. I hacked off the legs and resculpted that area with some armor plates. I then added HE Dragon Wings and created some Stranglethorn cannons out of old Barbed Stranglers. Some spikes and other add ons helped match the drawing in the codex pretty well! I know it's hard to pick out the details since it is primed, but you get the idea. I'll post pics of the painted version as soon as it is done so you can see everything better.

Thanks guys. I am having lots of fun with the Nids. Now I just have to get the Tervigon finished this week so I can get back to painting all these things (plus Gargoyles, Warriors, more Termagants...)
