So comments/criticism. Here is my current 500 pt list (Keep in mind that my 500 point up untill thousand point is hindered by not being allowed rare choices or more than 1 special choices)

10-archers

16 spearmen

8 - swordmasters

1 noble w/ Dragonscale shield,Great Weapon, Dragon Armour or Armour of stars ,Great Weapon

total points 493 or 497 depending on loadout for noble.


At aprox 2300 (I plan to run this for one game mostly cause I have the models not because its good)

4 units of 10 Silver helms (I believe i calculated it with command

2 Tiranoc Chariots

3 Bolt Throwers

1 great Eagle

I love the Armor of Stars! That is really cool, and at 500 points there probably isn't too much danger in him teleporting in a random direction after suffering a wound. You forgot to put a shield on him... if you configure him this way:

Noble, Great Weapon, Shield, Armor of Stars

Your list will come out to 499 . I would then drop one spearman (saves 9 points), and add in a standard bearer to that unit (adds 10 points). That puts you at 500 points exactly!

That'd be a fun list with the swordmasters and the noble. I think that's about as creative as you can get at 500 points

What will you be adding to get to 1000 (if you're going up by steps)?

It is actually increasing by 250 every 2 weeks and the lists are not set so I can take something different each game. I am limited to 0-1 heroes 1+core 0-1 special no rares for 500. 1-2 heroes,2+ core,0-2 special,no rares for 750. Then at 1000 its as it is in the army books but no specials are allowed untill we hit 2000. Oh we arent allowed to use dispel scrolls untill 1000 and only 1 at that point and at 2000 is when we get 2

So basically, they are forcing you to lose, as High Elves really need their Special and Rare choices. There is a reason why High Elves have a different FOC you know.

Best list I can think of with those FOC restrictions is:

Lv 2 Mage (with either Seerstaff of Saphery or Ring of Fury + Silver Wand)

Agreed, there's a reason High Elves are given higher special and rare allotments. Even in low-point settings like Warbands this allotment is recognized.

Are these the models you own, or are you building a list first? Are you required to continue building on the same list the whole time?

Hmm, it does seem like maybe they could take HE into account- perhaps instead of 1 (or 2) specials, they could make it specials allowed divided by 4 for less than 500 (rounding up), then divided by 2 for 1000, etc...

Also, I think you meant to say no "rare" until 2000 points, correct? You wrote special, but that wouldn't make any sense, since you already have one.

Oh man, you're gonna be struggling at later points levels. The RBT is really the only thing you have immediately available that can give you reliable Shooting, and you're prohibited from using it until late games. Furthermore, they're restricting access to your best March-blocker/Warmachine/Mage Hunter. On the plus side, this restriction means you won't have to see some of the more painful opponent Rares (Organ Gun, Hydras, etc). Still, two of your most effective units are restricted. Until you get to 1000, your heroes will likely have to do most of the heavy lifting.

Airmaniac's should be quite effective if you choose to go the Magic-heavy route (I'd opt for the Ring of Fury/Silver Wand combo, personally). Very few people should be able to handle that many PD (4 + D3 + a PowerLevel 3 Bound Item) up to the 1k mark.

If you don't want to rely so heavily on Magic (which could mean losing ~40% of your initial force with one bad miscast), I highly recommend a noble with the Reaver Bow. The Reaver Bow will effectively provide you with a mobile RBT and something that can easily rip through even armored opponents. Along with the Noble's naturally high BS stat, it makes it a VERY reliable shooting platform.

Suggestion for a non-magic heavy list that should work out well:

Noble - Dragon Armor (or plain Heavy), Great Weapon, Enchanted Shield, Reaver Bow

Block of White Lions with Champion

Not as destructive as Airmaniac's list, but a bit more consistent (no miscasting) and having the Noble with the White Lions lets him move without penalty through woods (and gives him the benefit of the 3+ save against any shooting). The only issue would be if someone else in your group decides to go Magic-Heavy, in which case you'd be relying on avoidance and trying to snipe out the enemy caster.

I was thinking he meant no special characters. And I think he said that the lists are not set, so he can take something different each time. It also sounds like most of his choices are based on models he has. However, I am just speculating on all of this.

@Gaznab. Sorry, I don't have anything to offer. I don't know enough about high elves to offer any. I am curious how your escalation leagues works out though.

I still vote for Armor of Stars... when else are you going to be able to take this? At 500 points you should be able to get away with being teleported 3D6 in a random direction

Yes "no special characters untill 2000" thats what I meant my apologies that it wasn't clear I think I will need to go back and edit that.

So it should be noted that I have already brought up to the campaign designer how much it hoops me to not have the large amount of special I normally get. I was scoffed at an essentially told to quit whinning as otherwise I will get no specials at all.

When I looked closer at the rules I wass actually more upset at being forced to use more than one core choice(the 750 pts game) then i was with having limited amounts of specials. Either way unlike every other army of which this isnt a big deal as they werent designed around it , mine is so being scoffed at told to shut my mouth really annoys me. Trouble is these are guys I know so if i just bow out I'll just be ridiculed instead.

in response to the question about if this is me running what I have available or the way id build my army. The answer is that with the flimsy way my army is being forced to play this is what I have ready to go I would not for any reason normally run this. I actually dislike spearmen as they are too defensive I play a far more offensive army.

In regards to my ridiculous silver helm army I have 32 silver helms all painted up from back when they were core so the purpose behind this is to build up one more unit to make 4 units of 10 just as a joke cause I'd much rather have dragon princes nowadays.

I don't know, how good is HE calvary? I would go with 2 units of archers and a unit of calvary and put my hero on a horse too. I think speed is better at small points games. You could even bring up a unit of archers to help protect the calvary, maybe take a charge if necessary.
