You may or may not have seen my thread a year ago on my Imperial Guard regiment: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/226992.page
A quick fluff explanation: they are clone guardsmen produced by the AdMech for service on an Explorator expedition. They aren't super skilled like the Afriel Strain, or amazingly devoted like the Death Korps, they are designed to be disposable and to withstand the horrors of whatever lost civilizations the AdMech uncovers.
The regiment is named the 88th Adrantis Foot, after the region of space that their "home" forge world of Omnicron 71-DX is in.
I am pretty slow at painting and modeling, and as such this army has been under construction for 4 years now!
And now on to the pics! I will try to post more as I process them. Keep in mind that I'm not the best painter, and I love edge lining and hard highlights.
Vox operator running along
Vox operator standing
Guardsman running
Plasma gunner
Autocannons
Sergeant
Platoon command squad members
Special weapon squad lasgunners. No special weapons have been completed for them yet, but there are plans for demo charges, flamers, and meltas.
A million pics of my airborne shock troopers, Valkyrie/Vendetta transported guardsmen.
The big boss and his vox caster. The remaining veteran guardsmen for the command squad have not been completed. The pictures are a bit dark but the trim is purple.
Oh, and as it seems I somehow took pictures of almost all running or standing troops, and the walking troops aren't super obvious or center camera. Here's some pics to prove I did more than standing/running/kneeling
Most of the troops I have taken pics of here are either part of "running" themed squad (most of the airborne, one of the PCS) or "standing around" themed squads (the other PCS and one of the airborne squads). Some unique coat sculpts can be found throughout the army, but we didn't manage to catch any of them on camera today other than the commander and master vox.
And that's that! Questions, comments, suggestions?

Looking good! I'm not a huge fan of the gun shields on the special weapon troopers, but everything else is quite cool. I especially like the loader resting on his shovel and the plasma trooper with the giant caution-striped backpack.

To be honest, the first 2 years were mostly planning to play IG, figuring out how to make custom molds, making the really old version of this army, and finally building and painting the army over the last 2 years or so. I have a long way to go due to the new codex changing my list totally.

Yeah, the gun shields are a little non-standard, perhaps impractical, but I like the look.
I've got some other pics and I'm working on getting those all ready for posting, I'll see if I can get those together soon.

great Work all the way around!
one of the few "homemade" Demolishers i've seen that i really like!
and i'm really starting to love the turret setting on the back of the Chimera look.
how'd you like the Vendy bits from FW? i bought 2 sets and was suprised at how little warping there was.

Yeah, I was pretty happy with how the Demolisher conversions turned out.
The chimera conversion is really easy to do, there's another pic in my gallery showing underneath the turret: the hatch area is basically replaced by a predator hatch cover.
The vendetta bits from FW turned out fine, I have had fairly good luck with FW but I have only ordered small things. The dreadnoughts had some really weird stuff on the back near the power plant though, places where I was not sure if I should cut or what.
Have you had bad experiences with FW casting? Seems like everyone has.

I'm stealing you paint scheme of the valkyrie. That matches the job on my Valhallans pretty well. What paints did you use?
|
As if on cue, you hear two people singing from the stairwell, and the door is opened and a pair of very smelly, very dirty guardsmen stumble in, completely drunk, and covered in vomit, and immediately collapse unconsious on the porch. You drag them to their beds, realising that they will not be waking up for some time. |

The main color is about 50/50 shadow grey and dark grey (the foundation grey is good, or just some codex grey and black). The goal is to make the color dark enough to no longer appear not quite so blue, but more of a dark metal color.
The highlight is basically the same deal one step up, starting at space wolves grey and adding shadow grey. Again about 50-50.

I like your theme. They will look great once fighting another army!!
One thing you may want to consider is maybe doing a bit of glazing on the humie models? Could be the photo, but they seem "chalky". Water down some paint big time and run it over their trench coats. You might find they look a lot smoother, more realistic?
Keep it up!! Nice work.

Hmm, I have nothing on coolminiornot, but I think I've heard of other chimeras with predator turrets floating around. Don't know if I've seen a rear mounted style one, but it's definitely possible. The adeptus mechanicus look was definitely what I was going for, if I get more of my infantry out of the way and retouch the chimera I will probably add more caution stripes and cogs.

Yeah, I considered doing some washes on the coats. They do look fairly chalky. The only thing that I am concerned about is making them look too soft/oily/whatever, I like the current look pretty well. It's on my to do list.
Lord of battles wrote:How did you make the great coats???
Take cadian legs. Shave off the pockets and the bottom of the shirt, so that the legs are more or less smooth and not bulky. Step 2, fill in the area between the legs, going down to around the top of the top of the boot. While you're doing this, build up the general shape that you want the coat to take. Step 3, create a fairly flat rectangle, long enough to wrap around the legs and overlap slightly in the front. Wrap it around, and make sure that everything looks right. I then made the grooves/borders/whatever you want to call it with the back of a knife.
