I just got done donating stem cells to my brother who has leukemia. It was an interesting procedure, but I'm glad I don't have to do it again. They got three times what they needed, so they can now freeze the rest just in case. The whole thing took twice as long as they said it would, and I'll be really glad to never hear another beeping sound as long as I live! When they brought the stuff in to start giving them to him, I commented that it looked like a melted cherry slushie. My brother laughed, his ex-wife laughed, and the nurse gave me the glare of damnation.

I agree, bone marrow donation is one of the most painful things anyone can do. If it was I think you deserve a couple hundred dollars of models... you know to help you recover.

@Warpcrafter - Nice job mate - you have every right to be proud of yourself. Hope your brother makes a full and swift recovery.

It wasn't the old procedure where they drill a hole in the hip bone. I got shots for four days to coax the cells into my blood, then on the fifth day they filtered them out of the blood via a two-way catheter in my neck. Pain-wise I put it right between getting bitten by a cat and dropping a ceramic coffee mug on my foot, so not really that bad at all. Besides which, could I really have said no?

I have donated blood once in my life... Forgot what blood type i was , but supposedly they are very good for blood banks.
So after the "Blood Drive" i passed out. Apparently myself lack red blood cells , and shouldnt be donating that much if any at all.

Yes, you could have... but that would have made you evil.
Not evil like darth vader, just evil like a person who doesn't stop to help a family member.
Good job though, the neck based catheter sounds uncomfortable, and pretty unsettling.
