Howdy! Welcome to Dakka.
Before I can give you any advice, I'll need to know what colors you plan on using. Also, do you have any tanks?

For a start, don't go off and try to make a design on your own, stick to one you see for them (I know they're all relatively the same), because I did that with my space marines a long time ago, and they came out looking like a pile of red, blue, gold, orange, and silver CRAP. So stick to a paint scheme you see and go with that. Also, I don't know about DKoK, but I found some tutorials on the internet very helpful. Even if they're not for Krieg, the tutorials can teach you a lot of techniques. I would look for Jawaballs and the Les Bursley ones where he talks. Jawaballs is on youtube, not dakkadakka. That's pretty much all I can say, hope it helps.

I agree that he should keep his palette limited to two main colors at the most (ammo pouches, guns and other accesories should be painted dull colors like brown, black or gray if they are not going to be the same as one of your main colors. DarkAngelsRK is very right about not going overboard with the colors), but I disagree that the OP should default to following the codex schemes. The best way to go is to pick something you like and go with it. It will keep you interested and you will be more likely to finish what you've started.

Just let me know what colors and camo pattern (if any) you are interested in using. If you have no ideas, consider what environment they are are from or being deployed into.

Yeah...I hate to say it, but if you're not very good at painting--Forge World isn't the place to start.

But, failing that:
Catachan Green, Charadon Granite, Kommando Khaki and Dheneb Stone are your best bets for fatigue/armor colors for Elysians.

Charadon Granite for the greatcoats/armor, and Dheneb Stone are the best colors for the fatigues.

If you haven't already started, I would suggest picking up a box of the snap-fit plastic imperial guardsmen. They are nice and cheap, and you can experiment with paint schemes before painting your expensive FW minis. For paint schemes, try military history books.

I don't use GW paints, so others can give you better paint color recomendations, but as to the actual painting steps, I'm building an army of gasmasked guardsmen, and here's the process I used:

1) Find a spray primer in the same color as your basecoat. Army painter has quite a few good choices. This takes out a whole step and puts less layers of paint on the model.

2) Apply the other basic colors. I kept it relatively simple with black (boots/belts/rifles), tan (facemasks, pommels), Brown (gloves) and a metalic color for gun metal and other bits.

3) Shading/highlighting/washing. This is where you decide how much effort you want to put in and how much you think you can achieve. If, like me, you're not a good painter, a wash or two, or a dipping (look it up) will get you some tabletop quality miniatures. I don't do any highlighting/shading/washing and just do the dip (thearmypainter.com has some good tutorials), but if you want to put in a little extra effort, kudos to you.

I'm curious: if you're self-admittedly not good at painting, why did you spend the money on FW models? Seems to me a bit of a waste on such detailed models. I'm not trolling here, I just don't get the thought process and was wondering if you could explain your choice.
