I've been thinking that it would be fun for (approximately 10 im thinking) members of Dakka (UK in my case) to work together to build and army and even take it to a tournament. With a team of Dakka members willing to participate we could make a 40K army together, I'm thinking of it working along these lines:

- 1st - About 9 other Dakka members volunteer to participate in this, it will require a little bit of your time and money, but nothing too substantial - such is the benefit of working in a team!

- 2nd - We then decide what army/race we are going to make (1500-1750pts I'm thinking), as a group. Also deciding whether we will paint all following the same colour scheme or whether we'll paint each model as we choose, therefore getting a army consisting of a mixture of colours, see 5th. And decide on an army list to follow.

- 3rd - Addresses are sent to me (I'll be organising this) via PM for privacy, then...

- 4th - The 1st person (me again) will buy, say a Tactical Squad Box, I will then post the parts/sprue for 1 Space Marine to each person (or relevant sections of vehicles, e.g. sides, doors etc.)

- 5th - Each member will receive his/her model (Space Marine in the example) and the paint it to a colour scheme of their choosing (or the chosen colour scheme) within a week.

- 6th - after painting and assembling their model they will post it to a chosen member of the team.

- 7th - Repeat stages 4th onwards, cycling around members of the team buying + posting the miniatures until the army is completed. Then a member(s) of the team can take this to a tourney?

This means that you will actually only have to paint and buy about a 10% of a 40K army (although necessary stamps and maybe jiffy bags will need purchasing too) and get to socialise and work together whilst we're at it. If we all paint to our own colour scheme this means will end up with an army of various colours and almost mosaic looking vehicles too, which if we want, one of use could take to a tournament.

The only particular problem I can see with my above plan is whether assembled/painted miniatures will get broken in the post and the reliability (which I should hope wont be questionable!) of the team members in painting/buying/posting as needed.

I'm also wondering about, instead of all building a collective army, we help each other build their own armies, going from 500pts for each person onwards (I prefer collective)?

I'm looking for input into this process, whether it's been done before, whether you think it could work and whether you're interested.

Thank you very much, Dave.

Interesting idea i like the idea but also worry about the mail ruining the models. Have you thought of doing this through your FLGS to avoid that possible catastrophe? I know you might not get the calibre of painters but it would also be easier to coordinate the efforts of everyone and see progress made in person.

Thanks for the input Vindicator, tis appreciated! I dont really care too much about the calibre of the painters (I'm not that good myself) and I dont really use my FLGS much. But I admit that your suggestion is more practical but personally I'd like the socialising etc. that this could bring...

But yeah, I'll consider the FLGS idea definitely, but might as well see if this takes of 1st!

No problem it will also save you guys money on shipping and if anyone has a discount at the store you just give that person the money and he can buy all of it. Who knows though maybe you can start something on here and run with it and it may turn out better.

Yeah, once again, all good points man! Well I'll see whether it gets started on here and then I'll decide which or both paths to follow...

I'd be interested, it'd also be cool if we all did our own colour schemes. Thing is, I don't get to paint that often and I'm not very good. However, I'm quite good at conversions.
