Mindless Spore Mine

Ok this came up in a game we were playing the other night and the rules don't really cover it. If a spore mine ends its random movement can it then assault if its within 6" of a unit. The living bomb rules give a list of prohibited movement but assault is not on that list. It also states treat the bomb as an individual unit. and looking int the smaller rule book on page 33 it mentions disallowed assaults and being that the Living bomb rule states the spore cannot do any of the things to disallow assault we ruled that the main could assault. This just seemed kinda "hinkey" and wanted to know the communities thoughts.

1. Yes, the Spore mine may assault. However, as soon as it comes in BtB with the enemy, well.....BOOM!
2. If you need a fluff reason for why it can assault, "Spore mines are drawn to the heat signatures/motion of enemies" will work.

Yeah that's the way we played it giving it an assault move making it not totally random where it explodes

RaW: It can assault.
HIWPI: They cannot assault.

YMMV ofc

I experimented with some orbital deployment spores against orks last week. I was underwhelmed with their performance. My opponent simply walked his deff dread within 2" and set off a chain reaction of spore mines that blew themselves off the board and accomplished nothing for 40 pts. Ghazgull Thraka took out the others in a similar fashion. I much rather would have shaved points somewhere else and bought 2 extra biovores for the same cost.

We played it that they could not assault, since they really couldn't do anything of their own volition but drift.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

What is HIWPI stand for?

As to the deff dread simply walking within 2" and set off a chain reaction, how did it set of a chain reaction? We all the Spore Mines that close to each other? If not, then the other Spores shouldn't have gone off. Or am I missing something here?

Where did you get the they can't really do anything of their own violation but drift? This is not 4th edtion anymore. We can't go by what was in a previous edtion or a different set of rule edtions. Once within 6" of an enemy, it could detect the enemies heat signature, smell, aura or what ever and then rush towards it.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Probably "How I Would Play It"

That's from the old Nid codex where if one spore mine in the brood exploded, they all did. Not relevant in the new dex.

Maybe they could, but the rules are unclear about it.

This is what I don't understand. Why play like 4th edtion Tyrainds. If playing that way, then Lictors can assault the turn they arrive, we wouldn't have broods of Carnifex, and Carnifex wouldn't be able to DS via Spore Pod.

Things change from edtion to edtion. Lictors can't assault now when they come in, Spore mines can assault now. Things change, adapt to them. If you don't like the way the rules are, then just "house rule it".
