How are most miniatures made these days? Of course you still have folks sculpting them from putties and making metal moulds, but with so many folks getting into the plastics game I am wondering what the new tools of the trade have become. We see renders quite often: are these renders exclusively made on a computer? What sort of software is used to make it?
Are certain materials (resin, plastic, metals) more suited for CG assisted sculpting? I'm not sure if I've ever seen a metal one made with a computer-image, but I very well could have.
I started thinking this after I took interest in a computer game animation/art program at a local college. I'm not much of a sculptor, but if I had the opportunity to work for a company making 3d sculpts for minis (after that degree), I'd jump all over it like a Giant who rolled it on his attack chart.
