Hi I am going to start reading the novels that are written about Warhammer 40k. I was wondering if there is a novel written about the Legion of the Damned?
Thanks

I doubt it. They are supposed to be mysterious & little known about.

they're the type who as you would say "tap and gap" except for they turn up shoot you up and bugger off unless the writer was doing it from a birds eye view the protaginists might not even know the legion is even on the battlefield (and remember kids history is written by the victor and if he doesn't know he was helped he WILL take all the credit lol)

Then it would cut itself.

In the end, SoB are uppity female canines who enjoy their faith in the emperor so much, I'd say they themselves are no longer truly human. They've given up normal life in exchange to become bolter-bitches.

It just feels wrong to me, the idea of a book written about a group so mysterious and dark. The unknown is what makes them appealing. Each person could just write their own fluff for a unit like this. I in particular envision a cruiser suddenly appearing in orbit above a battle that is being fought, and suddenly they show up. Are they spirits? Are they the last handful of survivors of a ruined chapter? Are they two midgets, one atop the others shoulders in Power Armor? Who knows?

In times of war, the law falls silent.

OK, let's ask it this way. Do the Legion of the Damned make an appearance in any of the 40K novels?

The Legion of the Damned are the remnants of the Fire Hawks chapter. They were lost in the warp and re-appeared as spirits, fighting "For the Emperor beyond the point of death" as they inscribed on their Fire Hawks chapter banner. They now go around fighting for the Imperium.

Not to be confused with the Flame Falcons, who all burst into flames on the battlefields, and were nearly wiped out by the grey knights after it was shown that the flames did not harm the Flame Falcons marines, but only their enemies, and this was deemed dangerous/warp-like. They also appear on various battlefields, still blazing, fighting for the Imperium. They however are not spirits, and are not covered in bone/death armor.

I wonder if the Flame Falcons hold a grudge towards the Grey Knights? or do they understand they where only pointed in there direction and told to purge

They would probably be mad at the inquisition, not the GK. They still fight for the Imperium overall.

Remnants of the FireHawks.....
Errr where did you get this?

When did their history become set?
Weren't the Damned around from before the inception of the Hawks???

There is no direct fluff for them in the form of a novel/book.
They have "appeared" in several codices and WDs, aswell as numerous graphic novels in small doses.
There has never been more than a couple of pages of the guys showing up and then disapearing again...

I will PM you if I ever come across anything..

Yes, they have been directly linked to the fire hawks, in the WD issue they were introduced IIRC. I think that this has seince been ret-conned.

I think that is old fluff. In The January 2010 white dwarf they state: "yet they are not of any chapter under the emperor's sun" pg 39 unless the firehawks aren't under the emperor's sun they aren't the same. It also states "Some believe the Legion to be the survivors of the long lost Fire Hawks" and "Others consider the Legion to be an extension of the Emperor's superhuman will" or "time-lost saviours" or "even the vengeful and immortal spirits of Space Marines slain in the Imperiums many Wars" on pg 44 it states "we didn't want to reveal who or what is actually under the armor- if there is anything at all!" Why would they do that if they are firehawks. And Lexicanum is good, but not official.

Well, I know that Lexicanum is unofficial, but it has to get its info from somewhere.
As for the recent WD reference, I had been picking them up from my FLGS, and they haven't gotten any past November. But the Firehawks theory is also mentioned amongst the superstitions of the Imperium. It is true that nobody knows for sure, but it is the most reasonable.
As for the superstitious bits, such as inhuman extension of the Emperor's will, it doesn't count out Firehawks. A chapter goes into the warp and is lost. Emperor takes advantage of this by influencing the warp or whatever he can do and sends them where needed.
All in all, it is true that nothing is certain about LotD, but it is that way with much of 40k fluff, what with the changes and "mysteries.

I recall there was one bit of fluff where it was the said that the LotD was seen on the battlefield. When the Inquisition rushed there to find out what was going on, they found the damaged Fire Hawk chapter banner and iconography had be respectfully furled and left behind. That would indicate that they were once FH and knew that the chapter as it had stood was disbanded.

Isn't there also a place of honour on Terra where the banners of those lost are displayed?

I have been playing a legion of the damned army since 2nd edition and they have never been definitively linked to anything. it's always been best guess explanations

-Any terrain containing Sly Marbo is dangerous terrain.
-Sly Marbo once played an objective mission just to see what it was like to not meet every victory condition on his own.
-Sly Marbo bought a third edition rulebook just to play meat grinder as the attacker.
-Marbo doesn't need an Eldar farseer as an ally; his enemies are already doomed
-Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain
-Sly Marbo still attacks the front armor value in assault, for pity's sake.
