i have just recently dived in to the miniature part of the 40k universe i have a tyranid army but want something more "organized" and symmetrical. I recently ran across Thousand sons lore and find them very interesting and think Chaos space marines are my next choice and was wondering if there are specific rules for them or if there really is a way to make them if so are there special models made for a thousand sons army.

P.S. could someone also explain if there are limitations on the daemons i can use with chaos space marines (e.g. can't use a greater daemon)

There are no longer special rules for them. However, they have their troop choice unit, also called thousand sons. In the newest codex for Chaos, you dont play certain legions, you just paint them those colours and maybe restrict yourself to using units that follow their fluff (like using thousand sons as troops for example). Essentially every Chaos army can use any unit they want, there are no restrictions.

So with that said, no, there is no restriction to the greater daemon. You have the option of lesser or greater daemons just like everyone else.

If youre going for pure fluff and dont care so much about winning, I would recommend:

HQ:

Sorceror/Ahriman

Elites:

Any of them (Dreadnoughts, Terminators, Chosen, Possessed)

Troops:

Chaos Marines with Icon of Tzeentch
Thousand Sons

Fast Attack:

None, I dont see Tzeentch using fast attack.

Heavy Support:

Havocs
Predators
Land Raiders

I dont see them using Vindicators (more iron warriors), Defilers are a maybe, and I dont see them using Oblits.

I would paint everything in the 1k sons paint scheme, and pick what you want from the codex with the proviso that they are recognisable without difficulty. Try bitz sites for extra heads and shoulder pads to unify the army. Good luck, and I'll dig out my 1k sons and post 'em so you can see my efforts.

It's pretty clear GW didn't want a wide number of people to use them Dust Buckets..

There are some with 0 Tzeentch items and still have a Thousand Sons army. It (for now) is just a look and color scheme.

the only real limitation on bringing a greater demon in a thousand sons army is if you want that guy acing a 90 point aspiring champion when he shows up. kind of tough to stomach. should probably bring lesser demons b/c thousand sons are so awful in close combat. make sure to bring a strong heavy support section. bolt of change is *not* going to cut it.
