I found an old thread which mentions this and I almost necro'ed it but decided not to. What do people think of this? I just learned about it today and I'd be shocked if it delivers. I was in the process of doing some general '360 research and decided to purchase it over the PS3 before I ran across the link below.
This was the video I found about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oACt9R9z37U
More specifically I'm skeptical about the scanning and voice/face recognition software. Call me old fashioned but I don't see how microsoft can promise all this without offering a completely new xbox console. Thoughts? Conjectures? New information?

I write for a German videogame website and Natal is one of the things I cover. So far, it seems pretty interesting, but I have trouble imagining it for "core" games like Gears.
We'll learn more this month when Fable 3 is presented to the public. That game will use Natal.

Really? Wow. I really can't wait to find out more. I'm still skeptical but if, somehow, they pull it off something like Natal will revolutionize RPGs.

Perhaps that will get me into console gaming. Right now, it's fiddling around with all those damned buttons that puts me off.

I wouldn't be surprised if Natal is used to convey emotions in Fable 3.

It's an eyetoy with all the added 'fun' of the DS microphone. And Fable 3 won't be that big of a deal. Peter is always full of it. Remember the big open world of Fable 1? it was all just tunnels disguised as forests and such. and Fable 2 is some caves and some tunnels disguised as an open world, with a dog, which the players were supposed to love. Now I like the Fable games, but don't listen to anything Peter says

Disclosure: I work for Sony.
Motion controllers only work for 'lightweight' games because no-one can play a game for two hours standing up and waving their hands around. You just get too tired.
That said, the success of the Wii and the PS EyeToy, Buzz and SingStar show that there is a role for non-standard controllers, especially in social type games which need to be easy to pick up and play for non-gamers.
Even before them, games like Get Bass! and Samba De Amigo on the Dreamcast proved that motion control could be a successful part of certain types of games.
Also look at the success of the DS proving that another unconventional type of control can be good in the right type of games.
The X-Box can have a system update which will incorporate the necessary software for the Natal controller. It will not be able to add the capability into old games.
I doubt it will do everything that Microsoft claim for it, because Microsoft always overclaim the capabilities of their software. I am particularly sceptical about the voice recognition.
As always, the quality of the games will depend on the skill of the designers as much as or more than the capabilities of the control hardware.

I think Sonys motion controller could have more potential for "core" games than Natal does. But I don't have a PS3 (yet) so I'll give Natal a try.

KK, when will I have Killzone 3? Tell them to hurry the feth up!
OT:
I'm very unimpressed by motion controllers, period. They remind me of the Power Glove:
Cool concept, terrible execution.

I don't think you will see Killzone 3 for a couple of years. That's assuming the team doesn't get bored and make something else, or get told to do something different to balance the mix of games available.
There is a plethora of FPS games available right now, with three different 1st party titles (Resistance, MAG and Killzone) plus plenty of 3rd party titles.
