Subject: New to SM-codex, 1500ps Crimson Fists tryout

Hi all!
I'm new to the Space Marine codex and have started collecting what will become a Crimson Fists 1500ps army.
I would appreciate any comments on the list, and also ideas how to expand it a further 500ps later on.
MY CONCEPT is a "police"-force type of army that would be sent to punish a city revolt or military sect somewhere in the Imperium.
THE LIST so far:
HQ
Captain (128p): Powerweapon, stormbolter, meltabombs
ELITES
Dreadnought (145p): Twinlinked lascannons, missile launcher
TROOPS
Tactical squad of ten (175p): Flamer, missile launcher, sergeant with melta bombs
Rhino (45p) Hunter killer missile
Tactical squad of ten (175p): Flamer, missile launcher, sergeant with melta bombs
Rhino (45p) Hunter killer missile
Scout squad of five (100p): Sniper rifles, camo cloaks, missile launcher
Scout squad of five (100p): Sniper rifles, camo cloaks, missile launcher
Scout squad of five (85p): Boltguns, heavy bolter
FAST ATTACK
Landspeeder squadron (160p): 1 typhoon/heavy bolter & 1 with multimelta, heavy flamer
HEAVY SUPPORT
Vindicator (115p)
Vindicator (115p)
Vindicator (115p)
TOTAL: 1493ps
For the expansion I was thinking of adding:
HQ
Command squad of five (150p): Company champion, 2 meltaguns
Rhino (35p)
ElITES
Sternguard veteran squad of six (165p): 2 meltaguns, 1 combi-melta
Razorback (50p) Stormbolter
Ironclad dreadnought (145p) Seismic hammer, closecombat weapon with heavy flamer
TOTAL: 545ps
By loosing some equipment, like meltabombs and such I calculated the total for the final army would be 1998ps.

Interesting army. But the Scout squads always get chewed up quickly IMO. Like the 3 Vindicators. But your talking 24" range. Hope tau are not watching. They'll start looking like a Target add for destruction.

I really like scout squads in my Crimson Fists list it makes it seem more fluffly and i've never really had them get wiped without doing anything. I really hate vindicators because of their range they also seemed to be popped before accomplishing anything so i wouldn't take them. I'd take whirlwhind for the ordanance and a dakka pred. i love taking Pedro Kantor, think he's a steal at 175pts and making sternguard scoring is invaluable. you didn't put sternguard in your 1500 list, but i would drop one of the tacticals and put in sternguard, but thats just my love of sternguard speaking.
Either way good luck with your list

Here's my comments:

Hunter killer missiles are rubbish. Tac squad could do with powerfists to discourage assault.
Scouts are a total mess I'm afriad. You have 2 x 100 point units that willl do nothing for you. Scout snipers exist purely as a Telion delivery system with him they are pointless. Bolter scouts are likewise poor and gioving them a heavy weapon certainly doesn't help as it just slows them down. If you are going to use scouts arm them for CC otherwise they are pertty useless these days.
Landspeeder squadron is laso a mess. Why not just take them as 2 units of 1? It would increase their survivability and allow them to fire at different targets given their weapons have totally diofferent uses and ranges...
3 Vindicators is good good target saturation and tripple tyhreat. But do you really need 3? 2 might be better with a Las-sponson Pred (by far the best Pred) for ranged anti-transport fire.
Also why collect Crimson fists and not take Pedro and bucket loads of Sternghuard? Apart from possibly Vulkan that is the best combination in the codex (without spaming Sp Characters, Lysander and Pedro is just disgusting and Shrike and Marneas can be hilarious).

Actually, Ive never met tau, and hopefully will never; its a horrid looking army imo.
But you do have a point... Perhaps a Pred with long-distance weaponry would replace one of the vindicators...

attucally in one game my vindicator did wonders for me. They ignored it. Of course this was a 4 vs 4. and no one targeted me. How wrong they were XD. the vindicator went on a kill spree. Killing 20 orcs + a Warboss and a Trygon, and 2 carnifexs! But the only thing was is that it was ignored. if you are fighting orcs and tyranids they are screwed XD.

I just love the vindicator model, its awesome. Thats why I thought i needed THREE! Never had any thoughts on the range until now... good point.
We dont use special characters in our games, and we've decided that the army will have the crimson fists rules anyway. So I will add some veterans for sure, but I kind of looked at what I already had when I made the list... Automatically Appended Next Post: FlingitNow wrote:Here's my comments:

Thanks for all the good ideas. I wanted the hunter killer missiles just for it makes the rhinos look more intimidating... but I'm sure you're right they're just crap.
Yeah I was kind of worried about the scouts... I did however want the snipers since they matched the "theme" of the army well. But I give serious second thoughts on the bolter scouts - great models though!
I will of course split up the landspeeders - excellent tip. I've never played them so this could have been a huge mistake on my part. Thanks!
We dont use special characters in our games, but we've decided to give the crimson fists "their" special rules anyway, that's just how we play the game... I'm aware it wouldn't work in a tournament of course...

Saw the new Venerable model... I was thinking of adding an Ironclad dreadnought, but now I'm not sure. What would be the best choice?
