Currently in the process of getting back into 40k and I've finally got a list that I'm happy with.

Haven't played since 3rd edition, so it may need some tweaking so any advice is welcome. It's about 75% painted, & i'm pretty close to getting it done. With the benefit of hindsight, i'd rather have 2 mobs of shootas but i'll just have to live with that.

TROOPS

19 β€˜Ard Boyz – 1x Rokkit, Nob – PK, Boss Pole 240

30 Boys, Shootas, nob, pk, bp, 3x eavy shootas - 240

30 Boyz, Sluggas & Choppas, nob, pk, bp, 3x rokkits - 255

FAST ATTACK

15 Stormboys - Nob, PK, BP, eavy Armour - 225

HEAVY SUPPORT

3 killa kans - 3x rokkits – 150

3 killa kans - 3x rokkits - 150

Battlewagon = 4 eavy shootas, deff rolla, 130

Mek & 'ard boys go in the wagon surrounded by the 2 boys mobs and the 2 kan squadrons to form a big green blob that advance to wherever their objective is. Stormboyz will lurk around the field near the blob to deal with anything unexpected. The wagon should be target #1 for my opponent, but i'm hoping that will allow take the heat off my kans/ boys/ stormboyz to let them do they're stuff. It's not a perfect plan but i'm hoping the shear weight of numbers will see me through.....

Idea sounds good the list is somehow incoherent since you will probably be forced to split your forces at some point. I would make boyz 3x20 instead of 2x30. Same with kans: 3x2 rather than 2x3. Your big mek may stay plain KFF with nothing else or pay for full burna wagon. I find stormboyz disappointing. Another mob of 20+ boyz is better buy. And you will have plenty points left. Battlewagon only need one or two big shootas and for the rest of the points you can buy planks or riggers or extra armour... I think you need some koptaz too. But i am still not fan of having only one transport despite being 14 front it will be killed quickly enough. Consider swapping wagon and dropping ard upgrade for ghazzy. He will really add speed boost to your force.

Do NOT split your boyz. Ever. Full mobs of 30 are far, far more effective than mobs of 20. They stay Fearless longer, they have more attacks, they are better in every way. 3 20-man mobs will crumple under sustained fire; 2x30 will carry you across the board.

Drop the rokkits from the Slugga Boyz, you want them running, not shooting. Assuming the 'ard Boyz have sluggas, drop the rokkit from them, too.

Actually, I would recommend swapping the 'Ard Boyz out for 10 Burna Boyz. Doing so gives you 90 more points to play with; add that to the 30 you saved by losing the useless rokkits on the Slugga Boyz, and use those points to take either 3x Warbuggies with TL Rokkits or a battery of Kannons for fire support.

Swap ard boyz for 15 not 10 burnas if. Rokkit buggies are far worse than koptaz. Kannons are not needed in this list. 3x20 is actually more effective if you know how to play them because you can attack wider area and if you make right unit placement they will give cover to each other. Easier than 2x30.

Cheers for the advice.

Dropping the rokkits from the sluggas is a good idea. Saves me points & removes the temptation to not run and fire with rokkits that will most probs miss. I'll put just 2 eavy shootas on the wagon, i like the idea of 12 St5 dice, but the BW's role is transport, not a gun platform.

I've thought about burnas, could do some nice drive-by flaming in the wagon. The disadvantage to this is that i'll only have 2 troop choices rather than 3, and the 'ard boyz (with sluggas) give me more survivability over damage dealing. I'm expecting the BW to go down so i'm planning for after the event.... I think i'll stick to 2 x 30 mobs, it's a tough decision but anything that makes the boyz stay around longer is what i'm after...

Guess i'll have to try both options.....

Boyz stay around longer as 3x20 because they are three different targets and besides that they give cover to each other better than 2x30.
