The army book for SW clearly states "the top hatch"....my friend claims it is the tiny hatch on the front of the rhino, next to the storm bolter...I say it is the giant double doors on the back over the toop compartment.

You are right.

Actually, because GW never define which hatch to use, your "friend" is just as correct as you are.

However, most people do play it as the rear hatch.

Yes, it's the top hatch, not the cupola.

Whilst, as Gwar points out, they don't define it specifically, you'll have a job getting two guys firing out of a cupola hatch.

Really? I've always assumed that the fire points were the two circular hatches at the front. There are two of them after all...and one guy with a storm bolter can fit through it just fine...

Just out of curiosity, in general do you measure range from the circular hatches, or from the larger square hatch behind it? It's about an inch difference so I could see this being an issue when firing at something at max range.

You brighten my life like a polystyrene hat, but it melts in the sun like a life without love, and I've waited for you so I'll keep holding on without you.

To the OP, the key thing is really just consistency. As long as you're always using one or the other, it probably all balances out and is fair given that there's no real answer. I always play it as the front circular hatches just because that's what I assumed at first and there wasn't anyone in my group using Rhinos when I started playing. I would easily say that neither presents a real advantage; there's certainly been plenty of times when I would have preferred to be shooting more from the rear of my vehicle.

The two front hatches make no sense. One is where the storm bolter is, and driver sits under the other. The top hatch and the rear door would expose too much of the rest of the squad to enemy fire.

I think it would be the side doors. Big enough for 1 marine to poke out of, and you can get 360 degree coverage out of the two of them. However, I think I'm delving too much into fluff here.

They have said in the past to measure from the join in the top back hatch at the front edge. Was in a White Dwarf that I don't have anymore though, so I can't say which number it was in.

I've always done it out of the popping hatches behind the gun ports... they look like they'd open up

conversely, if thats the case, I'm sure more then 2 marines could fire out of that.

otherwise, whats that hatch for.

Otherwise, I'd tend to agree Gwar!

And one of them isn't a hatch...

There is only one hatch...the two big doors make a hatch. The two small manholes at the front are for upgrades for the Rhino chassis. The Rhino gets a free storm bolter and can add another weapon, and the Predator/Razorback/Whirlwind tanks replace their hatch with a main weapon and have to purchase an upgrade to put in place of those manholes.

The Rhino's crew takes care of those forward manholes (those two random space marines which have been dumped from the codex...) and the crew fires from the doors that open above their..crew compartment..

Or is coincidental that the Razorback doesn't have a fire point and replaces those double doors?
