Do you think it would be cool if the national guard and the U.S. Marines switched names?

I still chuckle at the name Space Marines since 'marine' means of the sea. It's like having the Ground Air Force.

Was Space Knights too hokey for 1987?

Not really, unless you're also going to argue that 'the right to bear arms' means in the U.S. people have a constitutional right to carry around the upper limbs of ursines. Militarily, 'marines' mean 'ship-borne forces.'

My only beef is that "Space Marines" is too generic. I'm Just Glad we can also call them Adeptus Astartes. Also, I think it should be Imperial Army. The great irony is that pre-HH, it was called the Imperial Army, and around the same time the Codex Astartes went into effect, the Imperial Army was split into the Imperial Guard and the Imperial Navy. It would make much more sense if it had started as the Imperial Guard and then split into Imperial Navy and Imperial Army.

Thats the problem with multiple definitions of the same word with the same spelling and same pronunciation.

And I don't think it matters. Neither army is very cool.

Er . . . Imperial Navy. Space Ships. That's okay, K_K. Everybody gets one.

Well the air force does have ground troops at least in the US and I beleive in Britain, (are the SAS considered members of the Air Force?) and in america the army has its own air force, the navy has both an army and an airforce, and the marines have it all.

Not really. The Airforce have TACPs and CCTs, which deal with calling in airstrikes, as well as PJ's, which rescue downed pilots or other personnel behind enemy lines, and Air Force security is pretty hardcore. Yes, they are technically ground troops, but their mission's are all so tied into Air Force assets that they don't act independently.

The Army doesn;t have an airforce. They haven;t since after WWII. They've got helicopters, which don;t count.

The Navy has SeaBees and SEALS, and Corpsmen, which are hardly enough to constitute and army. They do have a great deal of air power. Yes.

The Marines have both ground and air assets, but most of their naval power is Navy stuff they're tagging along on.

Anything with the word "Space" in it sounds hokey to me. I would have preferred Imperial Marines or something along those lines.
