Can someone give me the rationale behind Space Wolf Runepriests? I have't read any of the SW novels, but just about everything else I've read has been pretty consistent on their hatred of sorcery. Everything I've seen indicates that they strictly adhere to the Council of Nikaea edicts.

So why do they have Runepriests?

I believe (although I haven't read Thousand Sons yet) that the Council made a distinction between some of the innate psyker powers, that one could just conjure through sheer willpower, and sorcery, that was knowledge gained from pacts and bargaining with denizens of the warp.

The Council did make that distinction. It just seems weird that the Runepriests would have so many powerful abilities - they have better powers than the traditional librarian powers. Seems like the fluff would dictate that their runepriests would have more powers that focus on canceling our the enemy's powers...
