This past weekend ChameleonEyes and I got together for a quick 1500 point game at our local store. He brought Daemons and I brought my Sisters. A great game, with Tzeentch messing with both of us to no end.

Sisters of Sanctus Fornax
HQ:
Canoness Chamomile the Mild (Jump Pack, Blessed Weapon, Inferno Pistol, 2+ Save, Anti Instant Death Thing, BSL)

Troops:
2x 10 Sister Squad in Rhinos, 2 Melta, Vet with Eviscerator, Plasma Pistol, BSL
14 Sisters on Foot, Vet, 2 Storm Bolters, Heavy Flamer, BSL

Fast Attack:
6 girl Dominion Squad, 3 Flamers, 1 melta, Vet with Eviscerator and BSL, Heavy Flamer Immolator

Heavy Support:
2x Exorcist, Storm Bolter, Smoke
6 Girl Retributor Squad, 3 Heavy Bolters, Vet

Devilish Daemons of Daemonic Depravity
HQ:
Blood Thirster
Keeper of Secrets (Pavane)

Elites:
6 Flamers

Troops: (A little fuzzy on the numbers… there were lots)
12 or so Horrors with Changling
10 or so Blood Letters
12 or so Daemonettes

Heavy Support:
2x Soul Grinders with Large Blast weapon

Mission was Capture and Control, Deployment was Set Battle (1 objective each, half a table 12” from the center).
The daemons rolled for first turn and demurred, letting the Sisters set up first.

I placed my objective (Objective 2 in the diagram) on the third level of the building here, forgetting that I had to set up 12” from the center and would have to hoof it to get to it. Right after he placed his I realized my error, but decided that since I had first turn shooting at nothing I could probably move and run to get into position anyway. He put his up in the other corner and I deployed.

Please note this diagram was drawn in 10 minutes in MS Paint and is not to scale.

As you can see, I castled up a bit in the bottom left, with the blob squad ready to run into the building and claim the objective early and set up a little bolter firebase. The retributors were stuck on the second level of their building with no visibility, but had first turn to move and run to the top level and shoot down all day. The tanks hid their rear armor behind various buildings or each other, and one Rhino squad sat in reserve to either support my objective or make a dash for his (this proved wise.)

My deployment completed, he nominated his 4 big guys as the first wave to come in, and promptly rolled a 1. He then rolled to Seize the Initiative and got a 6. So he suddenly was dropping his little guys down immediately, and I didn’t have a turn to get fully set up. Lovely.

Turn 1:
D: So, his plans suddenly changed, he opted to drop his troops in the center of the board, since the space between the corner and my troops was a little tight. Good thing too, since his flamers deviated 12” directly to the left, (scatter was not his friend all game.) So at the end of the top of 1 I was staring at a pile of flamers, horrors, daemonettes and bloodletters, with nary a blast weapon, template or heavy bolter ready to go.
S: Still a reeling a little over not getting my free set up turn, I scrambled and zoomed the Immolator 12” to fire on the flamers, while Canoness Chamomile hopped over the building to tie them up in melee. The Retributors stumbled up to the top of the building, and the Rhino and Exorcist complained that the Immolator was now blocking their LOS, and popped smoke. The blob squad found their combat heels didn’t work well in rubble, and stumbled into the building towards the objective, but not far enough to get to the second floor. Exorcist fire accounted for 3 blood letters, and the immolator and charging canoness dropped a mere 3 flamers. Not good.

Turn 2:
D: Rolling for reserves, a soul grinder and the keeper of secrets showed up to support their lackeys. The Keeper dropped to the North of the building with my objective, drifting perfectly behind the solid wall to block all sight from my troops, then ran around the corner to set up a Pavane next turn. The soul grinder dropped just to the south of the building my retributors were in, nearly drifting off the table edge, lining up to shoot the exorcist, and drifting WAY off. The daemonettes, having not performed well against Sisters in the past, scurried off to the North East Objective to capture it and cheer for penetration. The horrors moved towards the objective and flung some fire towards my retributors, killing one, and the bloodletters set up to charge the Canoness. In assault the ‘letters managed to pull 2 wounds off the canoness despite her 2+ save, while she dropped two of them in turn. I came to regret not attacking the flamers.
S: The spare rhino decided not to show up just yet, so the girls dug in their heels and prepared to whittle down the daemon scum. The Immolator zoomed another 12” to the north side of the Horror squad and flamed into them, killing 5. The Retributors added their fire, leaving but 3 horrors standing. The exorcist facing the soul grinder slammed it into reverse 6” and fired a whole 1 shot at it, failing to glance. The blob squad backed around for a clear shot at the Keeper of Secrets, walling it off from the vulnerable tanks and putting two wounds on it with their holy bolters. The other exorcist put a further wound on the monster, failing to bring it low. The rhino moved forward 6” and fired it’s storm bolter and two other bolters within at the horrors, but failed to drop one. In assault, Chamomile was torn apart by blood letters while failing to kill a single model. The Flamers and ‘letters both rampaged on 6”, the blood letters moving into the Retributor’s building to shred them.

Turn 3
D: The remaining soul grinder and the blood thirster came in, the former landing in the middle of the table to go after the immolator (and shooting off the heavy flamer), and the latter landing in the North West building. The southern grinder moved at the Exorcist, fired it’s template and again missed by a half mile or so, and was 2” short of an assault. The surprisingly lively Keeper of Secrets moved close to the girl blob and fired off a Pavane, lining them up 3x5 to get flamed by the, well flamers, who proceeded to vaporize the entire squad lickety split in the game’s “Oh, F#$% ME!” moment. The Keeper, perhaps surprised by his allies efficacy, stood around with nothing to assault. The blood letters stumbled up into the building, tripping over loose rubble as they charged the Retributors, losing one of their number to a bolt round in the noggin and only killing 2, including the Vet. The horrors pranced over towards the objective to the cheers and general rubbing of parts of the daemonettes.
S: The reserved rhino squad showed up finally, and launched out of the South East corner directly at the daemonette held objective and popped smoke. The Immolator, suddenly missing the immolating bits, zoomed towards it as well, popping smoke. The original rhino fired storm and bolters again at the flamers, but didn’t manage to drop one. The southern exorcist continued to retreat and fired on the soul grinder, again firing one shot and stunning the monstrosity, to no avail. The other fired a large salvo into the keeper of secrets, vaporizing the bugger and consigning it back to the warp. In assault, the retributors fell to the blood letter’s weapons and the daemons started to work their way back downstairs.

Turn 4:
D: Things running along pretty smoothly, the daemons moved in for the kill. The flamers hopped over to line up a double smack on the rhino and one exorcist in the south west while the blood thirster risked twisting an ankle and jumped over the building right in front of the organ tank. A few moments later both tanks were shaken, and the blood thirster had bisected the Exorcist. The southern soul grinder gave up shooting its cannon and sprinted towards it’s exorcist foe, easily making assault and neutering the tank. The northern grinder failed to put a round into the Immolator, and only managed to shake it in assault. The daemonettes made margaritas while the horrors continued to scurry towards the objective and the blood letters made it to the ground floor.
S: Rapidly running out of allies, the remaining exorcist slammed it into reverse and popped smoke, zooming 12” away towards objective 2. The rhino moved 6” forward through the flamers to shoot down 2 horrors (1 remaining) while blocking easy movement between the bloodletters and the objective. The immolator zoomed 12” and pulled a power slide, dumping out the Easy Bake squad right in front of the daemonettes, who snorted margarita out of their noses in shock, right before they suffered 27 str 4 hits and were purged from reality. The spare rhino zipped forward and disgorged it’s nuns, who scampered forward to claim the now toasty warm objective until recently held by the daemonettes. The margaritas, sadly, could not be salvaged.

Turn 5:
D: Realizing that he needed to get something on Objective 2 to get a draw, the horror ran for his life towards the building, but in his haste stumbled over some rubble and didn’t make it to the second floor. The flamers, perhaps thinking they could help him up if needed, flew to the top floor to admire how well painted the objective was. The blood thirster charged forward to smash the offending rhino, while the bloodletters popped out of the building and watched. I don’t really know why. The thirster predictably exploded the rhino, killing 1 girl but leaving the rest unscathed. The northern defiler charged the immolator between it and the soft flesh of woman, and managed only to shake it. The southern defiler shook the remaining exorcist like a rag doll until it came apart at the seams.
S: “Exactly as planned” said the Emperor, steepling his fingers. The suddenly disembarked girls dashed into the rubble and rapid fired the hell out of the remaining horror, preparing for the inevitable tide of blood letting that no Playtex could hold back. The Immolator politely pulled aside to allow the Dominions to fire their melta at the soulgrinder, miss, and then charge, losing one girl and holding strong. The remaining Sisters secured their grasp on the objective and waited to see if their admittedly short battle was at an end.

The daemons rolled, and Tzeentch decided he had enough laughs for one day, and recalled his units to the warp.

Sisters win! 1-0

A really great game! ChameleonEyes was great fun to play against as always, with a battle that could have gone either way. In retrospect it really demonstrated to me the value of transport mobility when things go drastically differently than planned. I expected him to take second turn and bring in his heavy hitters first, which was exactly what he wanted to do before Tizz went for the reach around and hosed everything up. One can really see how despite the initial huge amount of mobility the daemons had due to deep strike they were really fixed once they hit the table. We measured and found that even if we had two more turns and his blood thirster flew/ran max distance every turn he couldn’t make it to that other objective to contest, and even if he did, it would be questionable as to whether the bloodletters could make it to the one they were near.
I hope you guys enjoyed the report, even though the lack of pictures let it down. Chameleoneyes took a few pics with his iPhone, so maybe he can post them to elucidate a little.

Good report

I've yet to play Daemons with my SoB but it's always looked like a nice match up. Glad to see you hold on for the win despite the beating you seemed to take in turns two and three.

Thank you sir

I find Sisters vs Daemons to be a little one sided towards the Sisters unless I am facing Bloodcrusher/Fateweaver. The big issues for daemons seems to be cracking the transports and vehicles and not getting tarpitted in units with 3+ invulnerable saves. With nothing in the army being a tasty target for rending bolters, I have nothing to spend faith on other than Invulnerable saves and the occaisional +2 str, so I always have plenty to dump into holding monsters at bay. Combined with piles of bolters, flamers and meltas it always seems a little one sided. This game was such a mix up because I was caught completely on my back foot when the little guys arrived, so my first turn shooting was largely desulatory. I am fairly confident I could have dropped both soul grinders and maybe the keeper of secrets in one round of shooting if I had gotten the turn to set up and shoot like I wanted.

Only problem I see is that he is moving his demons after they deepstrike, they arent able to do this unless they run in their shooting phase.

It seems like you have a ton of anti-tank in your list but not a lot to deal with infantry models. Also, how do you like Plasma Pistols on your Vet. Sup? I have found they tend to be weak now that they can only ever get 1 shot off.

I always tend to attack the 'weaker' unit unless I can ID something with a good number of wounds with my Cannonness. Flamers are 4+ save (compared to Bloodletter 5+) but you hit on 3's and wound on 2's with them (3 attacks - 2 hits, 2 wounds, 1 saved) and it is nice to eliminate flamers. Plus, with a 5+ if you happen to make all your 2+'s you may even off a Bloodletter through No Retreat!

Thanks guys, glad you liked the report!

Twisted_Thrasher: Yea, he ran nearly everything after it dropped. Only the Horrors had any sort of target upon dropping, and they were most likely out of range.

Calypdo2ts: I really do have a lot of anti-mech in my list. I generally play at 2000pts with 2 units of flamer seraphim and an inquisitor with HB and PC servitors, and/or a box of plasma (Inq with 3 plasma vets, 3 combiplas acolytes and 2 mystics). I don't usually play 1500, but ChameleonEyes was in a hurry due to having to pick up his girlfriend at in 3 hours. So between just hacking points off my 1850/2000 points list and expecting him to play his INFERNAL TAU, I just tossed this to go.

As to the plasma pistols, I don't like them much at all. They are sorta handy for popping transports since I can assume 1 melta will always miss, and once a fleeing Sister Superior shot and killed a dread over her shoulder, but otherwise they are only there because they came on the model, and I didn't know enough about the game on the time to cut them off before painting. I have a handful of the same model unpainted, and they will have bolt pistols attached post haste. I am tempted to wait and see where these =][= rumor rumbles lead first though, since a bolter with eviscerator would be a better match up than the pistol/eviscerator required now.

Edit: Also, re: bloodletters, at the time I was foolishly thinking that if I whittled down the BL's when I survived for 4 rounds and was running thin on faith there would be fewer scary units with power weapons, as well as the fact they have a worse invulnerable save, and I get to reroll one miss anyway. In retrospect you are absolutely correct, as even if I managed to live a while the flamers are more irritating. Managing to fail 3 2+ saves in 2 rounds of combat was just shocking to me. She ususally ties up units until she runs out of Faith (except when they have Str 6 and two shot her.) I really expected that to be a protracted combat.
