Hurn Headtaker

"This figure is limited to 1000 castings. That sounds like a lot, but it probably won't actually last that long (could be very short indeed for reasons outside of our control, if you know what we mean). Could be as little as a month, or as much as a year. Later versions of the Hurn race will have different heads, armour, etc as Andy experiments with various designs. This is a big, hefty figure supplied on a 40mm base and comes with numerous optional weaponry such as a throwing harpoon, retracted wrist blades and backpack mounted gun."

Yes that is a Predator. Yes they are making more of them. Yes...I ordered three.

P.S. Thanks to MeanGreenStompa for pointing me in the right direction.

Someone else did clear resin preds but I can't remember.

I used them as Death Cultists in my IG for a while.

Yeah, I'd seen those, but after seeing them in person, I thought they could have been a bit more detailed. I still love them though.

Also, the sculpts with the guns are just stupid, IMO.

Well, if I inspired you to by something that you were interested in (even if it wasn't the model this thread is about), then I'm happy.

Cheers

I'm pretty sure that was Anisty castings who are now done by Old Crow Models, they also did a clear police box for us Doctor Who fans. I've also got a set of the Copplestone figures.

I've just been looking for the police box and it looks like it is gone, however the Predators are still there.

If anyone buys them, I found the resin to be rather soft, soft enough to leave fingerprints in if you squeeze. I coated mine with gloss varnish to give a hard layer and that did the trick.

Because:

A) It's not being called a "Predator", it's a "Hurn" so they can't do jack squat. The resemblance is uncanny, and it's obvious it was made with the Predator in mind, but 20th Century Fox has absolutely no way to prove that as they have no solid evidence.

B) It's such a small run by a small company, I doubt they would bother trying to go through all the legal processes in the first place.

I rather suspect that he's fully expecting to get pulled up for it sooner or later, going by:
"That sounds like a lot, but it probably won't actually last that long (could be very short indeed for reasons outside of our control, if you know what we mean). Could be as little as a month, or as much as a year. "

I don't think he's going to be called out (if he was he probably would have already). After all, he's had these models on his site for a while now:

Dark Lord Va'durr...

Doctor Hugh...

Again, I doubt it. Other companies such as Hasslefree and Reaper have been doing models that are obvious references to pop culture and have avoided most, if not all chances at suffering lawsuits. Think about how many people make models that are obvious Balrog ripoffs. D&D flat out has one called a "Balor" but you don't see them getting a C&D from Tolkein and Company.

I recall 20th Century Fox bringing up a lawsuit against GW (oh sweet irony ) for the old 3rd edition HT (because of it looking like the Alien Queen from Aliens) and IIRC, that lawsuit flopped. I doubt they would try it again, as, since this company is not selling a model under the name of a 20th Century Fox property, there is not proper ground for a C&D notice.

I seldom ever say this, but I'm not impressed what so ever. All of their work is ripped off from something different with little to none origonality. Rather disapointing really.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Well I love it! And theres also lots of cool models there... some more original than others but a VERY valuable company in miniworld.

Considering that if these companies actually licensed such properties to sculptors they would sell rather well, I think it is a good thing that so many companies are making fringe builds of such characters.

For example, just three days ago I got these two lovely models from Sally and Kev white over at hasslefree miniatures.

Then a set of these since I miscalculated the last time I ordered and got too few...

Pay no attention to my sig. They have nothing to do with that.

My thoughts exactly. There have only once been officially licensed Alien and Predator miniatures (done for Wizkid's Horrorclix game) and they went out of business. I'm glad other companies have stepped up to the plate.
