Are units that take a dedicated transport (ork boyz in a trukk, SM in a rhino, etc.) worth only 1 kill point or 2? Is the transport, as long as it's a dedicated transport and not another force org chart selection, is considered part of the unit permanently, even if they disembark, or are transports worth a kill point on their own? I tried to find clarification in the BRB and various FAQs, but couldn't seem to find it. If anyone could help, I would appreciate it, especially if you can quote me a BRB or FAQ ruling I can view. Thanks in advance.

Unit + dedicated transport = 2 KP.
EDIT: as the transport is still a "unit" even though it does not take a force org slot, it counts for 1 KP. All units count for 1 KP. For example, an IG enginseer takes no HQ slot but counts for 1 KP.

If it was considered a part of the unit, you would be forced to keep it in coherency, fire at the same target, and count it for casualties and morale tests...
Transports are a separate unit, dedicated or no.
There is no specific rulebook clarification of this, beyond the fact that the rules always treat transports as units in their own right.

I think some of the confusion you will see about this issue is a lot of Tourneys use custom mission-specific rules that change how Kill points are allocated.
This is not uncommon for the core rulebook to have basic missions that are 'the rules' but then a year after the edition is released, the tourney circuit has changed or adopted new rules for scoring different from the codex. In general then gaming groups preparing to be tourney compatible begin playing by those missions.
One of the more common configurations I have seen in tourney missions has been:
HQs: 3KP
Elite/Fast/Heavy: 2KP
Troops: 1KP
Dedicated Transports: 0KP
Every mission has a bonus KP like "hold more objectives" or "wipe out all your opponents Heavy support" or something.
This kind of balances out these 6 KP lists vs these 18 KP lists being close to impossible for one side to win. Also changes the role and impact of transports.
I fully expect to see some of these different rules in the missions book as this is how they have done it for 4th and 3rd edition in my experience. While we always have the rulebook missions, after a while people end up playing tourney mission packs.
Technically, things are 'worth' whatever you and your opponent agree on as gaming objectives before the game. You guys decide if you are using rulebook missions, tourney missions, or even totally made up missions.

Thanks for the replies. Seems a little odd that a stripped down wartrukk would be the same KP as the 300+ point meganobz inside, but then I guess kill points as a whole could use some work.

KP do what VP *cannot* do - balance Objective missions
And this is what the KP haters always fail to acknowledge -that without some disadvantages (in a whopping 1/3 of missions) the optimal list would be exactly what 5th was trying to reduce: MSU of troops, as many as possible.
