@Garret - How about 'One' by Metallica? It portrays 'the truth' of the horrors of war. The narrator is a wounded soldier who has lost his arms, legs, sight and hearing, and only has his own personal reflections for company. It is quite stark subject matter, but it is beatifully executed, and whilst it's portrayal of the soldiers desperation is unflinching, it doesn't contain much actual violence - and no profanity.
Oh wow... I think Metallica will help you, the trick is finding the right song. Read As Written, the exact context of 'beauty' isn't given, so it could be represented by riffs you think are 'beautiful'... Or a message. 'Wherever I May Roam' could be interpreted as being about staying true to yourself, and also about being free and not being confined to one spot. Traveling the world, experiencing new things; that could be interpreted as meaning nature, which is universally considered beautiful.
If you can't find a suitable 'brutal' song, try a metal ballad, like 'Nothing Else Matters'. That song seems like a perfect match for the given assignment.
Nightwish-Devil and The Deep Dark Ocean, 10th Man Down (highly recommend).
Cruxshadows-Winterborn (great song), Return, The Seraphs.
Opeth-April Ethereal (great song), The Lotus Eater, Reverie/Harlequin Forest, Bleak.
Lamb of God-Contractor, Redneck (NSFS ).
