I saw the movie Avatar a while back (thought I would talk about the avatar from the eldar army didn't ya ). And I was inspired to make an army based off of the Navi. Does anybody have a link for models twice the size of 28mm. I know the Navi are twice as tall as humans, but I don't want to go through the trouble of finding the right models.

Ummm, do your own research, and this belongs in the painting and modelling forum.

Not off to a great start on your posts here. As to your topic, you will likely have to convert your own Navi.

Okay, I understand where that was coming from, and I can somewhat agree, but the way that was handled was a bit harsh for a brand new member. Let's try to cut the noobie a little slack eh?

I do think you should at least try to look for some miniatures; you never know what you might find. My reccomendation would be to check out Reaper or CMON. They might have some models that you could use as the basis for some Na'vi miniatures.

I concede that perhaps I was a bit harsh. And if I've learned anything from forums, it's that rude comments evoke a response from people that is unparalleled in real life. If you insult people online they will likely retort, and therefore stick around longer, and eventually lose interest in the argument while they peruse the other sub forums.

Anonymity spawns a backbone in people. It is quite an interesting phenomenon.

I have to say I have the complete opposite effect, when I join a new forum and if in my first 1 to 10 posts (which I don't do much to start with) someone is a complete douche, I hardly want to post again, just because your anonymous doesn't mean you have to be an ass.

If it helps, I'm just as big of an ass in real life. Don't be fooled by the internet wannabes. It takes true dedication to discriminate against everyone equally in your life.

Perhaps I'm jaded, but at this point in the technological revolution, forum etiquette for new members should be common knowledge.

If he's older then he should know better than to ask others to do research for his own projects.

If he's younger then he has little excuse for poor forum manners as youth today are raised on technology, and forums should be nothing new to him.

And here I was thinking we had moderators to handle misplaced posts. If only they knew being a jerk to newcomers instead was more efficient and ultimately better in the long run for Dakka!

Actually, from what I understand of the John Gabriel Greater Internet theory, it's spawning something else. Additionally, off-topic thread jacks such as this one for people calling you on on your boorish behavior.

So far as the matter at hand: converting is going to be expensive. You're going to want to use 54mm models, which cost more money and will likely be ill proportioned (giant shoulders). Additionally, the Na'vi being nude or nearly so presents another not inconsiderable roadblock.

I did find a few models you might be able to convert by googling 54mm mini and browsing Cool Mini or Not's shop. Good place to start.

Welcome to Dakka!

Guys - CALM DOWN in this thread.

The proper way to handle things like this is to use the MOD ALERT button to report a post you feel might be in violation of the forum rules.

Keep it on point and polite, please.

I dunno about using Eldar. They have armor! You need models with little clothing (oooh nude!!).

Sounds like a TON of work. If you're going to make a small diorama then go for it.

I can see this as a Warhammer army.

Paint the Kroot blue and only give them 1 quill. Just make it longer with some green stuff.

For the record I admitted that I was overly harsh. And looking at the fact that the OP hasn't posted since perhaps I really did scare him off. I would hope not as I love for our community to grow, and I would also hope that humanity in general can take harsh internet words for what they are: harsh words from a faceless name.

The beauty of the internet is the ability to simply ignore what you don't want to see or read or hear.

So yes, in respect to my reaction to a thread being in the wrong forum was mean.

I would still be so harsh to someone who was blatantly asking others to do HIS research simply because he is being lazy.

With all that said, take your time, do your own research, make a kickass army and please for the love of God post pics of it. We love seeing new ideas and WiP's here. We would very much love to see what you have planned, and no I'm not being sarcastic(tone is so difficult to convey in text).

You know, at that scale, you might consider really just forgetting that the Na'vi are larger and using Kroot as others have suggested, perhaps getting wood elf heads.

I'd do that, then basecoat them white and use some regal blue, ultramarines blue highlights, and wash them with asuremen blue.

Whatever you do, post pics!

Indeed the height could be an issue. It's possible that Kroot bodies with some form of elf heads would work, as Ouze said. You could just greenstuff the ponytail/tentacles.

But yes, please post pics when you start working on it!

There are no exact Na'vi models currently. The following come close:

1.) Kroot (also modelled as the "good natives"): Kodex Kroot http://trobarts.customer.netspace.net.au/5th_ed_kroot_mercenaries_army_list_by_kompletely_kroot_V5.84.pdf
2.) Exodites with a/o wood elf bits and models (3rd edition Codex Exodites http://www.agisn.de/html/codex_exodites.html )
3.) Modelwise the Dark Age Dragyri females have some resemblance, also being larger than humans: http://www.battlefield-berlin.de/shop/index.php?list=WG82
4.) Reaper has one human sized alien looking similar: http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Chronoscope/latest/50136

I actually had plans to do a Na'vi themed wood elf army. Going to have a lot of sculpting practice as all the 'forest spirit' units are going to be animals from the film.

My idea for the bodies was going to be kroot bodies (but cut the guns off) and a daemonette head, with some green stuff work for the nose, braid, and tails. The daemonette heads have the almond eyes, and would look a bit smaller on the kroot bodies, which fits closely to the appearance in the film. Plus the kroot bodies are almost naked, so hoorah, it works.

9th Age (KoE, Warriors of the Dark Gods-Lust, Sylvan Elves), 40K (Dawn Bringers SM, Night Lords Legion, Tau), AOS (Bretonnia, Ironjawz, fyreslayers) Malifaux (Ressers, McCabe).

Anyone in CO want to teach me historicals?

I have to say that the Kroot mixed with Woodelf bitz would be the way to go. The Woodelves already have those ponytail things, all you need to do is extend them with green stuff. I would suggest running them as an Exodite army(Eldar). If you read the "fluff" on pg 7 & bottom of 14-15 of the Eldar Codex, it is very similar to the Na'vi in AVATAR. They even have a World Spirit that is similar to the Infinity circuit of craftworld Eldar(this is where Eldar spirits rest and where Eldar Farseers communicate with them. Do you remember the Tree scene in the movie where he hears the voices of the ancients, that is basically what the World Spirit is). Click here to see some of my Exodite conversions they might give you some ideas for mounts. The Woodelves come with bows too, so that would be an easy converstion. I hope this helps, looking forward to seeing what you will do with them.
