What is the best build for a Landspeeder i want to use a pair but im unsure what the best builds are for them does anyone have any experience with them. Now im looking for what is best for the points.

What is the best build for a Landspeeder for anti-inf?

What is the best build for a Landspeeder for anti-vechs?

Are typhoon launchers worth the 40 pts?

Runnin up on ya.

I loves me a multi-melta/heavy flamer combo.

General Internet consensus appears to be that there are three good builds for Land Speeders:

-Land Speeder w/ heavy bolter and Typhoon launcher
-Land Speeder w/ heavy flamer and multi-melta
-Land Speeder w/ two heavy bolters

Typhoon Launchers are totally worth it. I get tons of kills using mine.

Not only alot of kills with the Typhoon but they distract the filthy xenos and cause them to ignore your other units.

Typhoon launchers firing Frags qualify as Secondary Weapons.. so you can fire those as well as the HB or MM or whatever else you have ..

totally worth it.

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

I only have one speeder and I use it as a quick, anti-tank system/ suicide unit. It runs out and pops whatever nasty is hiding behind a building from my lascannons. If it lives, the h flamer is bonus crowd kill goodness.

So why not just MM and save?

MM/HF speeders are threatening to almost every unit in the game. The duality is worth 10 points.

I use HB/AS. It slaughters enemy infantry, and the AS can actually take out lower armoured vehicles. for anti-tank, Just the cyclone/HB or MM for extreme damage.

Typhoons are very strong in this edition, since the launcher became a 2 shot missile launcher. It used to be a single large blast that was only good on infantry. Now, you get two missile shots, which you can position 12" before the shot (or 6" if you want to fire the HB too).

Used in anti-infantry mode, you can move 12" and fire the Heavy Bolter, and the two Frag missiles. I've taken a frightening toll on enemy infantry with these units (I have a pair and rarely build a list without them), and they are GREAT for anti-transport work, with the ability to maneuver for side shots much easier than a Devestator squad or a Predator tank.

The MM/HF is another very solid build, although I don't use it myself. It's especially great in Vulkan build (both weapons become twin-linked), and it's even quite good in vanilla lists. I usually see this as a suicide unit, deepstriking very aggresively to get a MM or HF shot, and if it's lost, it's only 60 points.

The Typhoon is more expensive, but between range and speed, it can keep itself out of trouble if you give the opponent enough other targets to worry about.

Ultramarines Second Company - ~4000 points

Dark Eldar WIP - ~800 points

What about a MM/AC speeder? Something about this combo really appeals to me, but I've never seen someone talk about it.

Land Speeders, IMHO, are most effective when used as single Fast Attack choices. It keeps your opponents concentrating on one of them at a time. They're relatively inexpensive to take, and have a lot of range.

My favorite for Anti-Inf is Heavy Bolter & Assault Cannon. You can also go with 2 Heavy Bolters, and max out your range at 36". I like the Assault Cannon b/c it gives one more shot than the HB, is stronger, and it Rends. Heavy Flamers are good, if you know you're going to be playing on a board with a lot of terrain cover.

Two Multi-melta's will only cost you 80 points total. 'Nuff said.

FoeHammer wrote:Are typhoon launchers worth the 40 pts?

This is debatable. When I make a Land Speeder (or any unit for that matter), I try to outfit it to perform certain specific tasks (ie - Anti-Infantry, Anti-Elite, Anti-Tank, etc.). The points you spend on a TML isn't so much for the fire power, but for the versatility of having 2 forms of attacks with it. It works best when you take a squadron full of them, and then just blast the hell out of your targets with multiple templates, or sending 6 Krak Missiles at the rear of a tank that you just happen to have gotten around. However, as a stand alone model, I think it's very much out shown by your other choices. You have a better chance to force more Armor Saves with a Heavy Bolter or an Assault Cannon than you will with the TML. If you're going Anti-Infantry, go with the Assault Cannon instead, or with the 2nd HB and/or HF.

Hope that helps!
