oh man... are you guys in for a treat..(and someone please chime in if i should keep my mouth shut -ahem mods)

managed to jedi-mind trick the GW rep in my store this arvo for a peek at the battle missions and they look 'fully-sic maaaate!'.

Seriously..

I naturally skipped straight to the SM missions, where one mission had (the name of the mission-type eludes me now dammit) the space marines arriving by thunderhawk.

I would not be surprised that we are going to see thunderhawk kits come out soon. The reason i say that, is because the stats for the mission were

900pts for a thunderhawk, took up ONE slot from EACH of the hvy support, fast attack, and elite choices.. (yes, that's 3 choices for 1 vehicle), arrived on turn 1 automatically, left of turn 3 automatically, and if it was destroyed, the space marines automatically lose the mission....

The other mission for SM was like a final stand scenario. They deploy in the centre of the battlefield, and have around 2-3 objectives (or maybe 1?). They have to defend for as long as possible and any model within 3" of the objective is automatically fearlesss. Each army gets 3 missions specifically themed to their army, and at the end there were a number of general missions for each..

I also saw an IG mission of blitzkrieg, and also a mission where they have 3 super-heavy tanks trying to make it through the ambush of another army. The tanks must survive to win the game (naturally).

Tyranids also had a rather awesome mission where their deployment was divided up into 6 equal squares on a full board. They have a special rule called 'overrun' or 'they're coming from everywhere' or something, and each tyranid unit arrives randomly on a table segment on a D6 (not sure if they keep coming back randomly though).

That's all i can remember at this stage (my head had exploded you see). It's about time they started coming up with these. I still have my 2nd Ed battle missions book and have thought of using it just for scenarios as well. But it does give rise to GW raping us a little longer with new model releases.

Always missed the multitide of different missions from 3/4 ed and the way you could mix things up. 5th ed really removed that aspect so this is a very welcome release imo. Cant wait.

It does sound like a GW hint at they're looking into a plastic Thunderhawk. Would be really cool to have one, but i'm not sure how many games it would get used in. Sounds like a good release. Is the book just missions or does it have other stuff as well? Although it sounds great I'm not sure i'd buy it just for a couple of missions what with the interweb and all that. It would need something else there to tempt me. Same reason I skipt on Apoc 2 even though the first book is awesome!

No idea what's in the book but I saw the models and I'm not impressed with the Deff dread..
The FW one is better.

Although, I noticed that the VenDread has a power fist style errr power fist which is freaking awesome!
Also, GW producing a TH!! Get ready to spend yet more currency on moedls!!

A TH can carry a Land Raider. It's freaking huge. I expect it to be a $150 - 200 model easily.

ugh, can't stand that new ven.dread pwr fist... it's like anime 40k or something. That's what the Tau are for... don't turn them into SM's!!

/rant.

IG have got the super-heavy tanks, so don't see why they wouldn't be thinking about making TH kits.

You are now supersnowman40k.

And this is awesome. Now if only we could get a Master of the Forge model AND a thunderhwak my army would be set.

From that link, it seems this means the return of Kill Team, which is great. I'm also intrigued by the following missions
Tau
1. Vertical Envelopment
2. Counter-Attack
3. Fighting Withdrawal

And I like that the last one, going by the name, appears to be the Brave Sir Robin mission of chickening out and buggering off.

Forgive my ignorance, but how did the kill team missions work previously?

Looks like (from a scan of the mission names) that they just took the missions they used to include in codexes (2 editions back) and simply put them in one book. Will be good to get though as it's always easier to look through one book for something instead of a dozen. Cheaper for one thing.

Snowman40k you have now been promoted to SnowKing.
As you are a part of the Space Marines I cannot promote you,
however if you decide to transfer to the IG at any stage I would personally like for you
to join my entourage here at the Cadian Gate.

I will contact your Chapter Master and request that an image in your likeness
is added to the Hall of Chapter Heroes.

Your service to your Emperor as a neophyte is commendable,
I look forward to your inception as a Space Marine.

I'm glad some of the old missions got a 5E update. I'm looking forward to using killteams at our local game store to help get some of the newbies into it without putting the poor kids into poverty.

Just saw the book tonight. Wow, it is gonna be great fun. I love the new aptly named Ork mission: WAAAAAGH! You can keep your WAAAAGH! going indefinitely, which makes Ghazzy that much better, and you automatically go first on a 2+. Oh how sweet it will be.
