I'm getting back into the hobby after being away for a few years. I'm going to start with a new army rather than using my existing models. My question is if the comminity knows if a new edition of the rules is coming out that is going to make any of the army books obsolete, or if new versions of the books are coming out? I'd like to know this before I buy the book and my army models!

There've been rumors of 8th Edition coming out this summer, though I don't think anything definite has been confirmed about it. Judging by the writing style of the newer books (Skaven and Beastmen), its unlikely that they'll do anything particularly game-altering or creating a "Ravening Hordes" style list that'll cause older books to become obsolete. Seems more like a tweak/adjustment of the current mechanics.

Yeah, more seems like a way to force players to pay money for another book. Hopefully they won't do anything too silly, I've just gotten accustomed to seventh editions finer points.

My understanding from the rumor mill is that Magic is getting adjusted (probably to prevent the MagicHammer that seems to be dominating competitive circles) and putting an emphasis on blocked infantry again.

As long as Kill Points don't show up I'll be ok with this. Not happy with this, but potentially ok since it means there may be more missions than "kill the other guy, and you get a couple extra points for these things."

I hope you don't Have to take blocks of troops... since I don't have any (wood elves, only have dryads currently for troops) and my army in general doesn't have strong ones.

But I would like to see them get stronger... so that more people will take them, and I can run circles around them
