This is a Chaos Dread I converted from the AOBR model. Overall I'm pleased with how it's turning out. The face and gargoyle need some work, not to mention the base, all need some work, but it's good enough to run in an upcoming game in about a week. I'm trying to crank out another one, but I need some advice/comment, C&C on the weapon.

I decided to make the dreads CC monsters. I wanted them to have heavy flamers. The only thing is, when I'd never actually seen one before. I didn't realize they were supposed to be underslung on an arm. I ended up converting the multi-melta into what I think looks like a pretty good (Huge) heavy flamer, but I'm biased. Does it work, or do you think I'll be hassled about it? I thought about trying to integrate a CC weapon onto it, but couldn't come up with anything that didn't look goofy. I've included pictures of the dread overall so you can get an idea for the whole piece.

I've got another AOBR dread cleaned up and read to start, but wanted to get your input on whether to make him similar to the first or go in a different direction.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Overall, nice conversion!

I like the 'heavy flamer' for the right arm. I think the only thing that is missing is the ignition spark. Take a look at the marine or CSM plastic flamers, and you'll see the little bit at the end that holds the flame. If you add two of those (one to each barrel) of the flamer, it'll finish the look.

I like the faceplate and how you've incorporated it into the model.

I also like the paint scheme.

Now for the constructive criticism part

When I first saw the dread, it looked 'bare', i.e. it looked at first blush like a loyalist dread. There are too many flat surfaces on it. Breaking some of those up with more chaos doodads, chaos stars, chains, spiked railings (or just spikes) from the chaos vehicle sprue, would held to differentiate it.

As you mentioned, it doesn't look like a dread with two CCWs, so this might be a problem if your group or game store is strict 'what you see'. Ask them before you make any huge changes.

Lastly, you might want to think about altering the left fist, which again looks like a loyalist fist (cause it is ). Using something like the forks from the old style IG vehicle plow, or any other blade like bit to make the fist into claws, or make it a little more distinct.

I definately like the direction you're going, keep at it. And as you try stuff, use some blue-tac (poster tac to hold posters to the wall) to mock them up and take pics, so you don't glue things on and remove them later.

Also, as some inspiration, take a look at some of what jamsessionein is doing (granted, he used a FW dread as a base, but he's a nutter )

Granted, its loyalist, but might give you some ideas.
