I play orks with my friends and I've been having issues with my buddy's Tau army of all things. I can't deal with his vehicles. I either spend all game trying to knock him out of his fish or getting raped by his hammerheads. But ya here's the list I play normally, and it does fine against my other friends (Nids/SM/CMS/Necrons/Daemonhunters) but I just can't deal with his Tau.
Warboss - 145
Bike + Power klaw + attack squiq + Bosspole
7 Nobz(51 each) + 1 Painboy (80) = 372
Each Nob has a Big Choppa + Warbike + Stickbombs and one as a Waaagh! Banner
19 'Ard Boyz(200) + 1 'Ard Boy Nob(50) + Battlewagon(155) = 405
Battle wagon has 'ard case + Deff rolla + Red Paint Job + Stickbomb chukka + Grot riggers + Kannon + 1 Big Shoota
2 'Ard boyz with big shootas and the Nob has a power klaw and a bosspole.
And that puts me at 922 points and I'm not sure where to go from here. We normally play 1500 points. I see lot of the ork lists are just six sets of 11 boys and a nob with a klaw all in a truck. But when I tried that he railgun'ed my trucks and then my boys. I tried deffkoptas thinking I could get to the side or behind him but he'd just kill one make them run and I'd spend 2 turns rallying them. Used 2 squads of 3 and once with just 1 squad of 5, both failed pretty hard. I tired a zap gun on the battle wagon but the only time I ever hit with the thing he made the cover save all his fish have(the pod thingy). But ya any advice would be helpful.

1) Big Mek with Kustom Force Field
2) Never take more Trukks than you can hide with Battlewagons
3) You lack numbers. I would recommend that you load out with more boys in those points.
Basically, if you get a KeffMek, you'll get a cover save against those pesky Railguns. It'll also save ya some boys if your Trukks do get popped. Deffkoptas would be good for turbo boosting in their scout move so you can move/assault rear armour on tanks on the first turn.

The boss has no cybork body so has no invulnerable saves :(
Nobz should have all different wargear so use the wound allocation system better.
Ard boyz don't last that much longer and a ard case stops you assaulting out of it. Try boarding blanks so you can whack a vehicle without getting out.
Deffkopters you put in seperate fast attack slots so then you don't take morale tests..
If you added a big mek your transports would get cover saves if he took a KFF.
I'm not sure on armour values of tau vehicles but lootas are great for medium anti armour and anti infantry.

Opps, the boss normally gets a Cybork body it was late when I posted this my bad.
Lootas can only glance hammerhead front armor (13 iirc).
At 1500 points I couldn't really afford to make all the nobs have different wargear.
I haven't tried out the big mek yet. I'll give em a shot.
I thought boarding planks were for trukks so your boys could try and power claw someone while being in the relative safety of a trukk.

Could ya explain that to me I don't quite get what your trying to say. I think ya mean each kopta is a unit by itself so they can't fall back. Which might work.
And I guess I'll grab a couple kopta's, another battle wagon with some boys/nob with klaw and a couple trukks and give 'er a shot. and a Mek for the 2nd wagon and see how it goes.
Thanks for the advice and if y'all thing of anything else feel free to tell me. I just started so I'm kinda winging it.

Cut the Nob Biker unit down to 6 models, and use those points to put two PKs in. As Orks, PKs are your friend. It is theoretically possible to have too many, but I've never seen it done.

I agree with single deffkoptas in different fast atttack slots. Throw buzzsaws on them and twin linked rokkit launchas, and suicide trade him for his vechikles.
For the nobs, throw them in a trukk and have the other trukks surround it with a KFF big mek giving everything a good cover save.
And maybe you need to increase the size of the army. You have a very fast but fragile army. The minute the nob bikers are down or the 'ard boyz are popped out of the wagon, you just lost two of your big advantages. Maybe split some more points into some lootas, as those are really decent damage dealers with 4 foot range.

Last time I took on tau, I playtested some stormboyz, two squads of regular bikers and warboss on bike, also two units of two deffkoptas. Had footslogging boyz with KFFMek bring up the rear.
I ate him for lunch. Just concentrate on getting your whole army over there and mashing the filthy fish 'ead up propa.
Getting into a shooting war with tau is pointless IMO.

This may be true, but the lootas can hit side armor very easily, not to mention they could pop devilfish without any trouble at all, leaving his poor defenseless firewarriors on foot, and probably stuck in place for a turn due to a failed pinning test.
I would advise adding 2 teams of 10 lootas, each to sit in key locations in order to take out his vehicles.
Lootas may not be able to do much against heavy armor, but they are by far your best shot.
as a side note, mech lists work horrible against rain-gun using tau players, best to run your orks in swarms.

I put mine in a trukk with a mad dok so they all get inv saves and feel no pain rule, but a KFF would probably be just as good, especially in the vehicle.
I dont like the swarm technique, but thats cuz Im a Bad Moon guy all the way! But if you cant bang out all his tanks relatively quickly to get yer boys in for da rippin, then it may be the only hope!
