With all the commotion about the lack of models for these I've ran into another problem I can't find anywhere which recommends a base size for them as well......Would 50mm cut it or would I be better of with a 40mm*100mm?

Giant Base - very similar stat line to a giant so that seems best.

Older giants/monsters were on 50x50. The new plastic giant is on 50x100 (chariot sized base).
I don't believe that GW has put out a basing guideline for 7th ed. Guess that would make you free to base as you like.

Well, as there is no model you technicaly cannot use it as all, as the rules state the game is played with Citadel miniatures
50*100 is the best bet, anything smaller seems wrong.

The staff gorgon conversion posted on GW site yesterday was on a 50x50.
However I agree that 50x100 seems to be the trend with large target models these days and is likely to be the correct size.

I would say:
Gorgon - 50x50
Jabber - 50x50
Cygor - 75x50
Standard large monster bases for the first two, giant base for the second. Though I wouldn't have a problem with a 50x50 cygor, but that seems best if you're using a plastic giant for the base model.

my jabber was gonna be on a biger base then 50x50 as I'm basing it on a manga picture I saw
what do you think, using the dragon from LOTR then changing the head for the carnosaur head, greenstuff the hair, add zombies, skeles and greenstuff the big heads and add giant arms and legs

For something like that take a look at the VC corpse cart for the bodies. It's definitely a cool concept.....

Thanks for spoilers...
Just kidding, already read it.
IMO Giant Base should be for every extra-large monsters (Hydras, Giants, Jyggarhoweveritisspelled and the buddies), while mount monsters (Carnosaurus, Dragons (expect for HE), Manticores) should be on 50mm x 50mm bases
