Had this attempted to be pulled by a necron player who said that the Reps at the GW store had told him it was legal. He claimed his models could shoot under and through a monolith becuase it was a skimmer. I told him it was true line of sight, but since he was being tabled in round three i didnt really argue the point with him. I just wanted to check here to see what people think of this.

When I had my monoliths the 'lith sits up a bit as got some plastic raisers, this is only by about 5mm. I would say you cannot see enemy models because LOS is drawn from the models perspective. So any necrons will just see a big monolith in front of them as you cannot go prone.

Now with a eldar a skimmer or necron destroyers that different..

Monolith of fury tactic?

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Models that require LOS cannot "see through" other models, with the sole exception being members of the same unit.

I didn't think Monoliths came with flying stand bases. If so, technically, they should not be on flying stands and therefore shooting underneath them should not come up.

They done coem with flyer stands. They are raised up a few mm by soem bits of plastic on the bottom of the model.

Although i have seen pics of some 'liths modelled on flyign bases.

Also, it is not "technically" a skimmer. It says in the codex something along th elines of it being a slow skimmer which hovers slightly above the ground. I woudl liken it to a hovercraft type movement.

No, that's old rules. New rules is TLOS. You were right, the redshirt made a mistake.

It's a skimmer, what ur thinking of is that it can only go up to 6" because when the rulebook was written, all skimmers were very fast vehicles so it would set the bar for how fast this sucker goes. And yeah, no way in hell can you shoot something behind it...even if on those tiny plastic pegs. The damn thing is mobile impassable terrain o.0

Most don't. Some do... or did, at one point. I believe it was down to packaging differences... the Monolith box had a base, but the battleforce or army box didn't. Or the other way around.

Does anyone have a picture of this mythic base?

I saw one, thought it just looked like the guy threw 3 flying bases together. Looked finely done tho...

It was just a regular flight base.

You are right! However if you come across an opponent who consistently tries to pull this stunt just use the old "if you can shoot at me I can shoot at you" play

Edit: the 'mythic' flying base is pictured in the necron codex

The problem with that is that with the way the LOS rules work in 40K, it's not always true.

How long ago did 5th Edition come out?

I can't imagine that people are still finding TLOS to be such a difficult concept. The OP was correct.

On the subject of Monolith Bases, I've bought 5 over the last few years and none of them have come with it. Just saying...

Id normally agree, but people also seem to still be having alot of problems with how FNP works. I read it once, and understood exactly how it works. Apparently its really difficult to understand I guess

As I said, most don't. Fairly sure it was just one of the various boxes in which it was packaged that had it, and that was back when it was first released. I think it was the original Necron Battleforce, but that could be wrong.
