Well I was shocked to discover after 5 months of playing with these that the chaos rhinos come stock with TL bolters. The problem I'm having is that because it's different from the pintle mounted one, which direction is it able to fire in, or is it assumed to come from the rear hatch?

It's a pintel-mounted twin-linked bolter.

That's what she said!

In all seriousness though, I don't think it's necessary to put a bolter in both hatches unless the chaos rhino comes with two bolters to do that with. Doesn't the one have two barrels anyway?

they can be... most people (who have the points) like to slap on a havoc launcher.

Each weapon is a twin linked bolter, so you can fill both weapon mounts with 1 combibolter each - for 4 shots TL at close range

However as Tri said Havoc Launchers are *fantastic* value - turns your troop transport into something that is deadly to anything T3 (just makes them make LOTS of saves) and makes orks go away....the reroll to hit is fabulous

Only if you give it a second combibolter.

Or, rather, yes, they're both supposed to be filled. But only one of them holds a combibolter unless you purchase an additional one from the vehicle's options.

I only recently discovered this as well. You can, in theory, give your rhinos 2 TL bolters but the kit only comes with one. Also, the hatches are too close together to allow fitting 2 of the pintle mounts next to each other.

Wait, I thought that the freebie bolter (like the free storm bolter on vanilla marine rhinos) was hull mounted? No where does it say 'pintle-mounted' in the vehicle description. I've been playing for a long time thinking that free one had a fixed 45 degree firing arc.

Yes but the rules tell you A) use the description that comes with the vehicle like 45' or B) look to see if they can move on the model.

In this case the there is nothing stating a firing arc so you look its able to spin 360' so that's how far it can fire ... how ever if you take 2 there will be a blind spot where one would be blocked by the other

It doesn't really matter whether it's hull or pintle mounted... it should matter, but then GW said this:
Dark Angels FAQ wrote:Q. What is the arc of fire of:
• Any weapon mounted on a Drop Pod?
• A Rhino’s storm bolter?
• A pintle-mounted/additional storm
bolter?
A. 360° in all cases. These weapons are all
mounted on rotating structures, that allow them
to be fired all around.

Wow, okay. Is that printed anywhere else, other than the Dark Angels FAQ?

Nope. The rulebook FAQ mentions that Pintle-mount's 360 degree arc, but that's the only place they've ever defined the fire arc of the other storm bolter.
