Hey all, I've been playing Eldar for a while, but I need a bit of a break from modeling/painting them. I really enjoyed the Tyranid codex, and I like having Non-Meq Armies, so I picked up some stuff. I just don't know what to get next. I think I know, but I'm not sure, and would love some advice from veteren Bug players out there.

Here is what I've got now;

Hive Tyrant
1 Venomthrope
1 Hiveguard
1 Battleforce
8 Termagants
7 Genestealers
(The latter two being from a friends old battle for Mccrage set)

I'm thinking I need another battleforce, and at least 2 more hiveguard. I plan to get a Trygon eventually, but I'd like to be better at painting this color scheme first.

Anyway, Any advice would be very welcome!

Its tough to say. Its still pretty early and it looks like there are actually a lot of fun options.

Personally, Im going hormagaunt/gargoyle heavy so in that case, you would have to buy some of thoses. But some people are going with Tervigons and termagaunts which is a completely different direction.

In my opinion, focus on some units you like and buy those. Lots of them.

Yeah, I guess the problem is I don't know where I want to take my Army yet.

I keep reading the battle reports, it just seems like there are so many options, in the codex.

You could add 20 Gargoyles or so and a Trygon/Mawloc.

There is indeed a lot of options in the new codex, and a lot of very nice synergy effects. Go play some games. Ask a friend to stand nearby and make notes of what units make you grin or giggle when you use them. Those are the ones you should get more of because you are having din with them. Then, after you got those models, you can start optimizing.

Ha, I guess that's true. I'll just have to get what I have now assembled, and ready to go, and maybe another battleforce. with a few proxys I can play around with some options and what not.

I really like Warriors, but it seems peoples opinions on them are really low, which is a shame. I guess I'll just have to play test some.

Actually, what people say on these forums are not always relevant for your playing. Most discussions are based on the assumptions that you will be in a hardcore cutthroat tournament setting where everyone plays the best possible lists that their codex allows them. This is rarely the case in a regular game of 40k, where people tends to just play with a unit that has a cool background or that they recently finished painting.

Warriors are definitely useable. Boneswords, or bonesword + lash whip together with poison is great for hunting multiwound models that is dangerous in assault, such as nobz, TWC, ICs, MCs etc. Deathspitters and Barbed Strangler is awesome against infantry. They are a bit fragile if they are shot by S8+ weapons, so make sure to field them together with a lot of other targets that needs to be hit by the same weapons, and give them some cover save from gants or at least venomthropes. Maybe even buy some loose wings and transform them into shrikes?

One reason that warriors are disregarded is that a heavily mechanised tournament army of for example IG, SM or SW can shoot ridiculous amounts of S8+ shots with long range, while hiding behind armor values, wich we can have a bit of trouble with breaking open. These armies are very common at tournaments right now, since there are not many things that can stand up to them. This might change when the blood angel codex releases in a month or two, since they are likely to have plenty of deepstriking anti tank.

You're right. I plan to magnetize all the options on my warriors, but I don't know where I can get any spare Boneswords/Lashwhips, and I'm terrible at converting stuff.

I'll just have to play some games, and see how things are.

There are a lot of independent modellers that make and cast extra bits that can be used for converting. Due to copyright reasons they cannot call them "boneswords" but have to call them "alien swords" or similar instead, and they may not look as copies, but only similar enough to be clear what they are. Check out chapterhousestudios.com , maxmini.eu or look at the news section of the dakka forums for some ideas. Converting things is a skill you learn :-)

Yeah, nothing beats experience.
