Ok so I have been trying to get into fantasy for a while and a few weeks ago I bought a box of bret knights but I just couldn't get into the feel of the army. After that I gave up on fantasy for a while but now I have the oppurtunity to buy a small beastmen army off a guy at my regular club.

I am really torn about whether to get them or to focus on my tau. Usually I have difficult enjoying the fluff in fantasy which is a large part of gaming for me. However I am ok with the Beastmen, from the little bit I know about them (lexicanum is a bit lacking on beastmen). I like the models (in this case the older ones, but they don't look too different) and am looking foward to getting to make my own mosnsters. The bit I am unsure on is the rules- I have no idea how beastmen play. I would quite like to play an army with a small amount of basic of soldiers and most of the points going on elite units. I know beastmen don't have the low model count troops like WoC but I am considering lots of monsters if possible.

Would anybody be able to give me a basic idea about the fluff, rules / gameplay style and what beastmen armies usualy consist of. Some help on what I should have in a starting army would also be greatly appreciated.

No one able to give any information? I know they are new but hasn't anyone had a chance to give the armybook a look over?

The Beastman book is too new for there to be any "usually". At this point, I don't think there is even general consensus over which units suck and with units are must have.

The old Beasts of Chaos is no help - the changes are so radical that it may as well be a new army.

Oh right, if there has been some major changes it might explain why there haven't been any responses. I wasn't sure how different it was from the old book.

Close combat specialists best I can tell you a mate of mine sums it up well as a glass hammer. There brutal direct and straightforward. Most of the power in the lsit seems to be in melee.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Llamahead has it down.

Much of the Beastmen list can hit, and hit hard (Minotaurs, Razorgors, etc.) However, most of them lack some form of armor.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.
